How to use the Image Flipper & Mirror

  1. Add your images by dropping them on the box, choosing files or pasting with Ctrl+V.
  2. Choose a direction: Horizontal mirrors left and right, Vertical turns the picture upside down, Both does the two at once.
  3. Adjust single images with the ⇋ and ⇵ buttons on each card if some need a different flip.
  4. Pick the output format and quality, or keep the original format.
  5. Download each image, or press Download all (ZIP) for the whole batch.

Horizontal vs. vertical flip

OptionWhat happens to a pixel at (x, y)Typical use
Horizontal (mirror)Moves to (width − 1 − x, y): left and right swapUn-mirroring selfies, making a subject face the other way, reflection effects
VerticalMoves to (x, height − 1 − y): top and bottom swapWater reflections, fixing upside-down scans, creative layouts
BothMoves to (width − 1 − x, height − 1 − y)Same result as rotating the picture by 180°

Because every pixel only changes position, a flip never changes the image size and never blurs the picture. Flipping the same image twice in the same direction gives you back the exact original.

When to mirror a photo

  • Selfies and video calls: front cameras often save a mirrored image, so text on clothes or signs reads backwards. A horizontal flip shows the scene the way other people see it.
  • Design and layout: a portrait looking out of the page feels awkward; mirroring it makes the subject face your text.
  • Printing on transfers: iron-on transfer paper and some sublimation prints need the design mirrored before printing so it reads correctly once applied.
  • Product photos: keep a row of product shots facing the same direction for a cleaner catalog.

Be careful with photos that contain text, logos, watches or road signs: mirroring makes them read backwards, which viewers notice quickly.

Which output format to choose

Same as original keeps JPG as JPG, PNG as PNG and WebP as WebP; other formats such as GIF and BMP are saved as PNG. Pick PNG for screenshots, logos and graphics with transparency, JPG for small photo files (around 90% quality looks the same as the source), and WebP for files that are usually 25–35% smaller than JPG at similar quality. Animated GIFs are saved as a single still frame.

Frequently asked questions

How do I mirror an image?

Add the image and keep the direction set to Horizontal. The preview shows the mirrored picture straight away, with left and right swapped. Press Download to save it.

What is the difference between flipping horizontally and vertically?

A horizontal flip mirrors the image along a vertical line through the middle, so the left side becomes the right side. A vertical flip mirrors it along a horizontal line, so the top becomes the bottom. Doing both is the same as rotating the picture by 180 degrees.

Why does my selfie look mirrored?

Many phone cameras show a mirrored preview of the front camera and some also save the photo that way, so text on a shirt or sign reads backwards. Flip the photo horizontally to get the true, unmirrored view.

Does flipping reduce image quality?

No. Flipping only moves pixels to new positions without blending, so the size stays the same and PNG output is lossless. JPG and WebP output are re-compressed at the quality you choose; 90% or more looks identical to the original.

Can I flip many images at once?

Yes. Add as many images as you like; the direction applies to all of them, and you can override it for single images. Download all (ZIP) saves the whole batch in one file.

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. The flipping is done with the canvas element inside your browser, so your images never leave your device and the tool also works offline once the page has loaded.
