Generate random PIN codes with your browser's cryptographic random number generator. Weak choices such as 1234, repeated digits, birthdays and keypad lines are filtered out, and you can create one PIN or a list of up to 1,000.

How to use the PIN Generator
Pick a length: 4, 6 or 8 digits, or Custom for 3 to 12.
Choose the rules for weak PINs to avoid. All the common ones are on by default; add Every digit different or Don't start with 0 if a system requires them.
Set how many PINs you need (1 to 1,000) and keep No duplicates ticked for a list of distinct codes.
Press Generate PINs. The first PIN is shown large; click any PIN in the list to copy it, or copy and download the whole list.
Optional: type a PIN you already use into Check a PIN to see which weak patterns it matches.
How many PINs are there, and how strong are they?
The number of possible PINs is 10n for n digits, and the strength in bits is log2(10n) = n × 3.32. Removing weak patterns lowers the count a little; the tool computes the exact remaining number for up to 5 digits and estimates it by sampling for longer PINs.

These figures assume the PIN is chosen uniformly at random. Human-chosen PINs are far weaker because people favour a small set of patterns, which is exactly what the filters remove.

Why
Sequences
1234, 4321, 7890, 50123
Counting up or down is the first thing people try.
Triple repeats
1110, 5555, 200008
Easy to type, easy to guess.
Repeating patterns
1212, 123123, 1122, 1221
Repeated blocks, doubled digits and mirror images are popular memory tricks.
Dates and years
0704, 3112, 1987, 010190
Birthdays and anniversaries can often be found online.
Keypad lines
2580, 1470, 3579, 9510
Straight lines on a phone keypad are quick to enter and widely used.
Common PINs
0000, 1004, 2000, 6969
A built-in list of PINs that people pick far more often than chance.
Tips for using a PIN safely
Use a different PIN for your bank card, phone and door code, so one leak does not unlock everything.
Shield the keypad when you type and never write the PIN on the card or its sleeve.
Prefer longer PINs where allowed, and turn on lockout or erase-after-failed-attempts options on phones.
A PIN protects a device that also limits guesses. For online accounts, use a long unique password from the password generator instead.
Frequently asked questions
Are these PINs truly random?
Yes. Each digit comes from crypto.getRandomValues, the browser's cryptographically secure random number generator. Random bytes of 250 or above are thrown away so that every digit from 0 to 9 is exactly equally likely, which avoids the small bias of a plain modulo.
Doesn't filtering out weak PINs make them easier to guess?
Slightly, in a measurable way: the tool shows how many PINs remain and the entropy in bits. With the default rules about 82% of 4-digit PINs and roughly 77% of 6-digit PINs remain, a loss of less than half a bit. In exchange you never get a PIN such as 1234 or 1990 that people and guessing lists try first.
What counts as a date?
For 4-digit PINs: any valid month and day in MMDD or DDMM order, and any year from 1900 to 2099. For 6 digits: MMDDYY, DDMMYY, YYMMDD, MMYYYY and YYYYMM. For 8 digits: MMDDYYYY, DDMMYYYY and YYYYMMDD. Other lengths are not checked for dates.
How many 4-digit PINs are there?
There are 10,000 four-digit PINs (0000 to 9999), 1,000,000 six-digit PINs and 100,000,000 eight-digit PINs. Each extra digit multiplies the number of combinations by ten.
Should I use a 4-digit or 6-digit PIN?
Use 6 digits or more whenever the device or bank allows it. A 6-digit PIN has 100 times as many combinations as a 4-digit one, and lockouts after a few wrong tries make long random PINs very hard to guess.
Is the generated PIN stored or sent anywhere?
No. PINs are generated and checked entirely in your browser and are never uploaded or logged. Only your settings (length, count and rules) are remembered on this device for convenience.
Can I generate PINs for many users at once?
Yes. Set How many PINs to up to 1,000 with No duplicates ticked, then download the list as a TXT or CSV file. The CSV stores each PIN as text so spreadsheet apps keep leading zeros.
