SHA-512 Hash Generator
Type or paste text to see its SHA-512 hash instantly, or drop files to get their checksums. Switch to SHA-384, choose hex or Base64, add a key for HMAC, copy a ready-made Subresource Integrity value, and verify against a pasted hash. Nothing leaves your browser.

How to use the SHA-512 Hash Generator
- Choose Text or Files. Type or paste text, or drop one or more files onto the box.
- Pick the algorithm: SHA-512 (128 hex characters) or SHA-384 (96 hex characters).
- Choose the output: hex, optionally uppercase, or Base64. The SRI line shows the value for an integrity attribute.
- Optional: tick HMAC and enter a secret key to create a keyed signature.
- Paste an expected hash into the compare box to check a download, then copy or download the result.

Frequently asked questions
What is SHA-512?
SHA-512 is a member of the SHA-2 family defined in FIPS 180-4. It processes data in 1024-bit blocks using 64-bit words over 80 rounds and outputs a 512-bit hash, written as 128 hexadecimal characters or 88 Base64 characters. For example, the SHA-512 of "abc" begins ddaf35a193617aba.
What is the difference between SHA-384 and SHA-512?
SHA-384 runs the same algorithm as SHA-512 but starts from different initial values and keeps only the first 384 bits of the result. That gives a 96-character hex hash. Because the output is truncated, SHA-384 is also resistant to length-extension attacks, and it is the most common choice for Subresource Integrity hashes.
Is SHA-512 more secure than SHA-256?
Both are considered secure, with no practical collision or preimage attacks known. SHA-512 has a larger output and security margin and is often faster than SHA-256 on 64-bit CPUs without SHA hardware instructions. For storing passwords neither is suitable on its own; use bcrypt, scrypt or Argon2.
How do I create a Subresource Integrity (SRI) hash?
An SRI value is the algorithm name, a dash and the Base64 hash of the exact file bytes, for example integrity="sha384-…". Open the Files tab, drop the script or stylesheet, and copy the SRI line. On the command line: openssl dgst -sha384 -binary file.js | openssl base64 -A.
Why does my SHA-512 differ from another tool?
Every byte counts. This tool hashes text exactly as typed, encoded as UTF-8. A trailing newline from echo, CRLF line endings or extra spaces produce a completely different hash. Use printf '%s' 'text' | sha512sum to hash text without a newline.
How do I check a SHA-512 checksum on my computer?
On Linux run sha512sum file, on macOS run shasum -a 512 file, and in Windows PowerShell run Get-FileHash file -Algorithm SHA512. For SHA-384 use sha384sum, shasum -a 384 or -Algorithm SHA384.
