How to use the Pressure Converter
- Type a pressure into any box, for example 32 in psi or 2.2 in bar.
- Choose the precision at the top: smart rounding, a fixed number of decimals, or scientific notation.
- Read the headline for the usual pairing (psi ⇄ bar, hPa ⇄ inHg), with every other unit in the grid.
- Check gauge vs absolute in the side panel, or click a reference pressure to load it.
- Download a table for any two units with your own start and step.
How pressure conversion works
Pressure is force per area, and its SI unit, the pascal, is one newton per square meter. Every unit here is defined as a fixed number of pascals, so the converter computes result = value × Pa per source unit ÷ Pa per target unit. Example: 32 psi × 6,894.757 = 220,632 Pa, and 220,632 Pa ÷ 100,000 = 2.206 bar.
Column units such as mmHg, inHg and inH₂O come from P = ρ × g × h: the pressure under a column of mercury or water of a given height, using standard gravity (9.80665 m/s²) and a conventional density.

Which unit is used where
- Tires and compressors: psi in the US, bar or kPa elsewhere (always gauge pressure).
- Weather: hPa or mbar worldwide; inches of mercury on US altimeters and forecasts.
- Vacuum and lab work: Torr, mbar and Pa.
- HVAC and gas lines: inches of water column for small pressure differences (1 psi ≈ 27.7 inH₂O).
- Hydraulics and materials: MPa (1 MPa = 145.04 psi = 10 bar).
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert psi to bar?
Divide psi by 14.5038 (or multiply by 0.0689476). For example, 32 psi = 2.206 bar. One bar is 100,000 Pa and one psi is 6,894.757 Pa.
How many psi is one atmosphere?
One standard atmosphere is exactly 101,325 Pa, which is 14.6959 psi, 1.01325 bar, 760 mmHg and 29.92 inHg.
What is the difference between psig and psia?
psig (gauge) is measured relative to the surrounding air, so a flat tire reads 0. psia (absolute) is measured from a perfect vacuum. At sea level, psia = psig + 14.696.
Are hPa and mbar the same?
Yes. 1 hectopascal = 100 Pa = 1 millibar. Weather services use either; standard sea-level pressure is 1013.25 hPa (mbar).
Are Torr and mmHg the same?
Almost. 1 Torr is exactly 1/760 of an atmosphere (133.3224 Pa), while 1 mmHg is 133.322387 Pa. They differ by less than one part in seven million.
What is kg/cm² in psi?
One kilogram-force per square centimeter (also called a technical atmosphere, at) is 98,066.5 Pa, about 14.2233 psi or 0.980665 bar.
Why does my tire pressure differ in kPa and psi?
It does not; they are two scales for the same thing. 35 psi = 241.3 kPa = 2.41 bar. Both values on a tire placard are gauge pressures.
