Data: Open-Meteo historical weather API (ERA5-based reanalysis models on a roughly 9–25 km grid). Values are modelled for the grid cell, not readings from a local weather station.
How to use the What Was the Weather on My Birthday?
- Enter your birth date (any day from January 1, 1940) and, if you know it, your time of birth.
- Search for your birthplace by city or town, or type latitude and longitude. Choose the right match from the list.
- Press Find birthday weather to see the conditions, temperatures, precipitation and an hourly chart.
- Share it: download the card image, copy a link that reopens the same result, or copy a one-line summary.
- Optionally compare every birthday since you were born to find your warmest, coldest and wettest birthdays.
Where the birthday weather comes from
There isn't a weather station in every town, and old paper records are scattered. To give a consistent answer for any place since 1940, this tool uses reanalysis data: scientists feed decades of observations from weather stations, ships, balloons, aircraft and satellites into a modern weather model, which rebuilds the atmosphere hour by hour on a global grid. The result is a complete, gap-free history, accessed here through the free Open-Meteo historical weather API.
Each value is for the grid cell around your birthplace, at 2 m above the ground for temperature and 10 m for wind. Daily highs and lows come from the 24 hourly values in local time, and precipitation is the total for the local day.
What the weather conditions mean
| Condition | What it means |
|---|---|
| ☀️ Clear sky / 🌤️ Mainly clear | Little or no cloud for most of the day |
| ⛅ Partly cloudy / ☁️ Overcast | Broken cloud, or a sky fully covered by cloud |
| 🌫️ Fog | Visibility reduced to under 1 km by fog or freezing fog |
| 🌦️ Drizzle | Very fine, light precipitation |
| 🌧️ Rain / rain showers | Light, moderate or heavy rain, steady or in showers |
| 🌨️ Snow / ❄️ heavy snow | Snowfall, snow showers or snow grains |
| ⛈️ Thunderstorm | Thunder and lightning, sometimes with hail |
The day's condition is the most significant weather in the 24 hours, so a mostly sunny day with one shower is listed as a shower.
Fun ways to use it
- Birthday cards and party invites: add the share card to a message ("It was 72°F and sunny the day you arrived").
- Family history: look up parents' and grandparents' birthdays, wedding days or the day a family moved house.
- Baby books: record the weather on a newborn's first day, including the hour they were born.
- Every birthday since: see how often your birthday is rainy, and which year was the warmest.

Frequently asked questions
How far back does the birthday weather go?
Back to January 1, 1940. The data comes from Open-Meteo's historical weather API, which is built on ERA5 climate reanalysis and covers every place on Earth from 1940 onward. The newest days appear after a delay of about five days.
How accurate is the weather for my birth date?
Reanalysis models combine millions of past observations with a weather model to rebuild conditions on a grid roughly 9 to 25 km wide. Temperatures are usually within a degree or two of what a local station recorded. Rain and snow are less precise, and mountain or coastal spots can differ more from the grid value.
Is this the weather from a weather station?
No. It's the modelled value for the grid cell containing your birthplace, so it's consistent everywhere in the world but may differ slightly from a nearby airport's records. National weather services and NOAA's climate archives hold official station observations.
Why does it say there is no data for my date?
Dates before 1940 are not covered, and days from the last week may not be processed yet. If the place search fails, a content blocker or network filter may be blocking open-meteo.com; you can type coordinates instead.
What does the time of birth add?
If you enter a time, the tool shows the temperature, conditions, humidity and cloud cover for that hour, and marks it on the hourly chart. Times are local time at the birthplace.
Is my birth date stored or sent anywhere?
Your date and place are only sent to Open-Meteo's public API to fetch the weather; there is no account and nothing is saved on our side. The last date you used is kept in your browser's local storage for convenience.
Are all the tools on FreeToolCabin tested for quality and accuracy?
Yes! Every tool on our site undergoes automated Q/A testing in real browser environments to ensure high precision, correct output, and zero errors. If you happen to spot a bug or have a suggestion, please contact us at [email protected] and our team will review it right away.
