How to use the Concrete Weight Calculator
Choose the shape: slab, block, cylinder, pipe or a known volume.
Enter the dimensions and how many identical pieces there are.
Pick the concrete type or enter a custom density.
Enter your hauling capacity to see the number of loads.
Example: a 10 × 10 ft patio 4 in thick holds 33.3 ft³ of concrete; at 145 lb/ft³ it weighs 4,833 lb, about 2.4 US tons or 2,192 kg.

Frequently asked questions
How much does concrete weigh?
Normal-weight concrete weighs about 145 lb per cubic foot (2,320 kg/m³), or roughly 3,900 lb (almost 2 tons) per cubic yard. Reinforced concrete is usually taken as 150 lb/ft³ (2,400 kg/m³). Structural lightweight concrete is around 90–115 lb/ft³ and heavyweight concrete can exceed 200 lb/ft³.
How much does a concrete slab weigh per square foot?
A 4 in slab of normal-weight concrete weighs about 48 lb per sq ft, a 6 in slab about 73 lb and an 8 in slab about 97 lb. Multiply 145 lb/ft³ by the thickness in feet.
How much does a cubic yard of concrete weigh?
About 3,900–4,050 lb, depending on the mix: 27 ft³ × 145 lb/ft³ = 3,915 lb for plain concrete, and 27 × 150 = 4,050 lb for reinforced concrete.
How do I calculate the weight of a concrete cylinder?
Volume = π × diameter² ÷ 4 × height. A 6 × 12 in test cylinder is 339 in³, or 0.196 ft³, which at 145 lb/ft³ weighs about 28.5 lb. For a pipe, subtract the hollow core: π × (D² − (D − 2t)²) ÷ 4 × length.
How much does broken concrete weigh for disposal?
The weight stays the same as the solid concrete, but rubble takes up about 1.4–1.6 times as much space. A 10 × 10 ft, 4 in patio weighs about 4,800 lb (2.4 tons) and fills roughly 1.9 yd³ once broken up. Dumpsters for concrete often have strict weight limits.
Does wet concrete weigh more than cured concrete?
Slightly. Fresh concrete contains extra mix water, some of which evaporates as it dries, so a cured piece is typically a few percent lighter. For hauling and formwork, using about 150 lb/ft³ for fresh concrete is a safe estimate.
Is this a structural calculation?
No. It gives the dead weight of concrete for estimating, hauling and rough load checks. Have a structural engineer confirm floors, decks, lifting gear and anything where safety depends on the load.
