*Space includes the table, chairs pulled out and a share of the aisle. A round table needs roughly its diameter plus 5 ft in each direction: about 2.5 ft of chair and aisle space on every side so guests and servers can pass behind seated guests.
How the table count works
Guest tables = ⌈(guests − head table) ÷ seats per table⌉, always rounded up. Head tables are usually seated on one side so the couple and wedding party face the room, which halves the seats per table. Buffets typically use one line of two 8 ft tables per 100 guests, and cocktail high-tops are planned at about one for every 8 to 10 guests.
Layout tips
Get the room's real dimensions and subtract the dance floor, stage, bar and buffet before placing tables. The event tent size calculator adds these areas up for you.
Leave at least 4–5 ft between table edges (about 5 ft for wheelchairs and service carts) and 6 ft or more for main walkways and fire exits.
Mix table sizes to reduce empty seats: for 90 guests, nine rounds of 10 seat everyone exactly.
Keep a spare table set up for late RSVPs or vendor meals.
A 60 inch round table seats 8 people comfortably and up to 10 if guests do not mind being close. It is the most common banquet round for weddings.
How many people fit at a 72 inch round table?
A 72 inch round seats 10 comfortably and up to 12. Larger rounds mean fewer tables, but guests across the table are farther apart and the centerpieces need to be bigger.
How many people fit at an 8 ft banquet table?
An 8 ft by 30 in rectangular table seats 8 people, four on each side, and 10 if you also seat one person at each end. A 6 ft table seats 6, or 8 with the ends. Seated on one side only, as a head table, an 8 ft table takes 4 people.
How many tables do I need for 100 guests?
With a 10-person head table and 60 inch rounds seating 8, the other 90 guests need 12 tables (96 seats). With 72 inch rounds of 10 you need 9 tables. Always round up; a few empty seats are better than squeezing guests in.
How much floor space do I need for tables?
Plan about 100 sq ft per 60 inch round table (a 10 × 10 ft square including chairs and the aisle), about 121 sq ft per 72 inch round and 10 to 12 sq ft per guest at banquet tables. Add space for the dance floor, buffet, bar and stage separately.
Should I order extra chairs?
Yes, about 5% extra is common for unexpected guests, vendor meals and broken chairs. The calculator adds the percentage you choose to the chair count.
What size tablecloth do I need for these tables?
For floor-length linens, 60 inch rounds take 120 inch round cloths, 72 inch rounds take 132 inch cloths, 6 ft banquet tables take 90 × 132 inch cloths and 8 ft tables take 90 × 156 inch cloths. Use the tablecloth size calculator for other drops.
