Markdown Editor
Write Markdown in a clean editor with a formatting toolbar and see the rendered result side by side as you type. Your documents are saved in this browser automatically and can be exported as .md files or standalone HTML pages.
How to use the Markdown Editor
- Start typing in the left pane, or press Open .md to load an existing file. The sample document shows the main syntax.
- Use the toolbar or shortcuts to format text; select text first to wrap it in bold, italic, code or a link.
- Watch the preview on the right update live. Switch to Write or Preview for a full-width view.
- Keep several documents with New and the Document menu. Everything is saved automatically in this browser.
- Press Export HTML for a ready-to-publish web page, or Download .md to keep the source.

Markdown vs HTML: a worked example
This Markdown:
## Release 2.1 - **Faster** search - [Changelog](https://example.com)
is converted to this HTML, which is what Export HTML and Copy HTML give you:
<h2>Release 2.1</h2> <ul> <li><strong>Faster</strong> search</li> <li><a href="https://example.com">Changelog</a></li> </ul>
The Markdown is 56 characters, the HTML about 120: Markdown is roughly half the typing and far easier to read as plain text, which is why it is used for README files, documentation, notes and static-site blogs.
Tips for writing better Markdown
- Leave a blank line between paragraphs, lists, headings and code blocks. Many rendering surprises come from a missing blank line.
- Name the language after the opening fence (
```python) so sites like GitHub can highlight the code. - Use one heading level 1 per document for the title; the editor also uses it as the document name and the HTML <title>.
- Escape special characters with a backslash, e.g.
\*not italic\*. - Keep a copy: browser storage is convenient but not a backup. Download important documents as .md files.
Frequently asked questions
Where are my documents saved?
In your browser's local storage on this device. They are never uploaded. Clearing your browser data, or using a private window, removes them, so download a .md copy of anything important.
Which Markdown flavor does the editor use?
CommonMark with GitHub Flavored Markdown extensions (tables, task lists, strikethrough and autolinked URLs) rendered by the marked library. You can turn GFM off, and optionally treat single line breaks as <br>.
Is it safe to paste HTML into the editor?
Yes. Raw HTML in Markdown is allowed, but the preview and exported HTML are cleaned with DOMPurify, which strips scripts, event handlers and other dangerous markup.
What does Export HTML produce?
A complete, standalone .html file with a title taken from your first heading and a small built-in stylesheet, so it looks good when opened directly or uploaded to a website.
Does the editor work offline?
Once the page has loaded, editing and autosave work offline. If the Markdown library cannot be downloaded, a basic built-in preview is used and a notice explains that tables and some syntax will not render.
How do I make a table?
Press the Table button to insert a template, or write rows separated by pipes with a divider line of dashes under the header, for example | Name | Price | then | --- | ---: |. A colon on the right aligns that column to the right.
