Point your camera at a QR code or upload a picture of one. The content is decoded on your device and shown first, so you can check a link before you open it. Wi-Fi codes, contacts, emails and events are laid out clearly.
Your camera stays on your device. Nothing is recorded.

How to use the QR Code Scanner
Choose Camera or Image. Camera works on phones and laptops; Image reads a QR code from a photo or screenshot.
For the camera, click Start camera and allow access. Hold the QR code inside the frame; it is read automatically. Use the switch to change cameras.
For an image, click to choose a file, drop it on the box, or paste a screenshot with Ctrl+V.
Check the result. Links show the real domain and any warnings. Click Open link only if you trust it.
Copy the text, link or Wi-Fi password with one click. Earlier scans are listed in History.
What a QR code can contain
A QR code is just text. Apps agree on a few formats so that the text can mean "join this Wi-Fi" or "add this contact". This scanner recognizes the common ones and shows their fields separately.
"Quishing" (QR phishing) uses stickers on parking meters, fake delivery notes or emails with QR codes to send people to fake login or payment pages. Before opening a scanned link, check:
The domain. Read the part right before the first single /. paypal.com.secure-login.example belongs to secure-login.example, not PayPal.
https. Real payment and login pages always use https. The scanner flags plain http.
Look-alike letters. International domains can imitate familiar names with letters from other alphabets. They appear as xn-- in punycode, which the scanner points out.
Shortened links and IP addresses hide the real destination. Be extra careful with them.
Stickers on top of codes in public places, and QR codes that ask you to pay or log in "to avoid a fine", are classic scams.
Tips for a successful scan
Fill most of the frame with the code, but keep its white border (quiet zone) visible.
Avoid glare on glossy screens and labels: tilt the code slightly.
For tiny or distant codes, take a sharp photo and use the Image tab, which also reads screenshots.
Codes printed light-on-dark (inverted) are supported.
Frequently asked questions
How do I scan a QR code online?
Open this page, choose Camera and allow camera access, then hold the code in front of the lens. Or choose Image and upload a screenshot or photo that contains the QR code. The content appears instantly.
Can I scan a QR code from a screenshot or a picture on my phone?
Yes. Use the Image tab and pick the screenshot from your gallery or files. On a computer you can also paste a copied image with Ctrl+V or drag the file onto the box.
Is it safe to scan QR codes?
Scanning itself is safe; the risk is the link inside. Fake QR codes (quishing) can lead to phishing pages. That is why this scanner never opens links automatically: it shows the full address and warns about unencrypted http, raw IP addresses, look-alike international domains and link shorteners.
Are my images or camera video uploaded?
No. The camera stream and images are processed locally in your browser. Nothing is sent to FreeToolCabin or any other server.
Why can't the scanner read my QR code?
Make sure the whole code, including its white border, is visible and in focus, and that there is enough light without glare. Very small, blurry or heavily damaged codes may not decode. For images, crop closer to the code and try again.
How do I connect to Wi-Fi from a QR code?
Scan the Wi-Fi QR code and the network name, password and security type are shown. Copy the password and paste it when you join the network in your device settings. Phone camera apps can usually join directly too.
Does it work without installing an app?
Yes. It runs in any modern browser on Android, iPhone, Windows, Mac and Linux. Camera access requires a secure (https) page, which this site uses.
