How to use the Excel to VCF Converter
Drop your Excel file (or .csv) on the upload area. Pick the sheet if the workbook has more than one.
Check the first rows and confirm whether the first row holds column names.
Review the column matches: each contact field shows which spreadsheet column it uses. Change or clear any of them.
Choose the vCard version and output: one .vcf file for importing, or a ZIP with a separate file per contact.
Click Download VCF and import the file on your phone, in Google Contacts or in Outlook.
How Excel columns become vCard fields
A vCard is a plain text file made of PROPERTY:value lines between BEGIN:VCARD and END:VCARD. Each spreadsheet row becomes one of these blocks. Name and address parts are combined into structured properties whose parts are separated by semicolons, so the converter escapes any semicolons, commas and line breaks that appear inside your cells.
One contact per row, one header row. Remove title rows, merged cells and totals above or below the list. Empty rows are skipped automatically.
Store phone numbers as text in international format (+1 512 555 0101) so leading zeros and the plus sign survive and the number dials correctly when traveling.
Use real Excel dates or YYYY-MM-DD for birthdays. Text like 03/04/1990 is ambiguous, so pick the matching date order in the options; dates the tool cannot read are reported and left out.
Import a test file first. Export two or three rows, import them on your phone and check the result before importing hundreds of contacts, because phones do not merge duplicates automatically.
Going the other way? The VCF to CSV converter turns a .vcf exported from a phone back into a spreadsheet.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert an Excel contact list to VCF?
Drop the .xlsx file on this page. The columns are matched to contact fields automatically (for example First Name, Mobile Phone, Email). Check the matches, choose vCard 3.0 and click Download VCF. You get one .vcf file containing every row as a separate contact.
How do I import the VCF file on an iPhone or Android phone?
On an iPhone, email or AirDrop the .vcf to yourself and tap it, or import it at iCloud.com in Contacts with Import Contact. On Android, open the Contacts app, choose Fix and manage or Settings, then Import from file and select the .vcf. Google Contacts and Outlook also have an Import option that accepts .vcf files.
Which vCard version should I choose?
vCard 3.0 is the safest choice and is accepted by iPhone, iCloud, Google Contacts, Outlook and most Android phones. Choose 4.0 only if the target app asks for it, and 2.1 for very old phones; in 2.1 accented characters are written with quoted-printable encoding, as that version requires.
Why are the leading zeros or plus signs missing from my phone numbers?
If a phone column is stored as numbers in Excel, Excel itself drops the leading 0 or + before the file is saved. Format the column as Text in Excel and retype or re-import the numbers, or keep them as text like +1 512 555 0101. The converter copies phone numbers exactly as they are stored.
My sheet only has a Name column. Will first and last names be filled in?
Yes. With Split a full name turned on, the last word becomes the last name and the rest becomes the first name, and a name written as Last, First is split at the comma. The full name is always kept as the display name (FN).
What is the difference between one VCF file and a ZIP of VCF files?
A single .vcf containing many contacts is what phones and Google Contacts import in one step. The ZIP option creates a separate .vcf for each person, named after the contact, which is useful for attaching individual contact cards to emails or a CRM.
Is my contact list uploaded to a server?
No. The spreadsheet is read and converted entirely in your browser with JavaScript, and the VCF is created on your device. No names, numbers or emails are sent anywhere.
