What solid color images are useful for
- Minimal wallpapers that keep icons readable and reduce visual clutter on desktops and phones.
- Video and slide backgrounds: a flat color plate for title cards, chroma key screens (pure green #00B140 or blue #0047AB) or pauses in an edit.
- Design work: a base layer for mockups, a matching color block for a brand kit, or a background for product photos.
- Transparent placeholders: an empty PNG of an exact size, for example to pad a sprite sheet or fill an image field that requires a file.
- Testing: checking a screen for uniformity or color, or testing how an upload form handles a specific size.
PNG, JPG or WebP?
PNG is lossless and supports transparency, and a single-color PNG is only a few kilobytes, so it is the best default. JPG is accepted everywhere but has no transparency. WebP is small and supports transparency, but a few older apps cannot open it.
Frequently asked questions
How do I make a solid color image?
Choose a color, pick a size such as 1920 × 1080, and press Download PNG. The image is drawn in your browser with the Canvas API and saved directly to your device, with no upload and no watermark.
Can I create a transparent image?
Yes. Tick Fully transparent and download as PNG or WebP to get an empty image where every pixel is transparent. You can also lower the opacity slider to create a semi-transparent tint, which is useful as an overlay. JPG does not support transparency, so that option is turned off for JPG.
What is the largest image I can make?
Each side can be up to 16,384 pixels and the total is limited to 120 megapixels, which covers 8K (7680 × 4320) and large print sizes. Browsers cap canvas size, so very large images may fail on phones with little memory; the tool shows a clear message if that happens.
Why is my PNG file so small?
PNG compression stores repeated pixels very efficiently, so an image that is one color everywhere compresses to just a few kilobytes even at 4K. The pixel dimensions are still exactly what you chose.
Which size should I use for a phone wallpaper?
Use your phone's screen resolution or a 9:16 size such as 1080 × 1920. Presets are included for common iPhone, Android and iPad screens. For a desktop, 1920 × 1080 (Full HD) or 3840 × 2160 (4K) are the most common.
Are the print sizes really 300 DPI?
The print presets use the pixel count that gives 300 dots per inch at that paper size, for example 2550 × 3300 for US Letter and 2480 × 3508 for A4. The file itself does not carry a DPI tag, so set the print size in your printing dialog; the result is sharp at 300 DPI.
Is the color exact?
Yes. Every pixel has exactly the RGB value you chose, saved in the sRGB color space. PNG and WebP are lossless for flat colors; JPG at high quality also reproduces a flat color essentially exactly, though some decoders may differ by one unit.
