How to use the HEX to CMYK Converter
Enter a HEX code like #2F6B4F or 2f6b4f, paste rgb(47, 107, 79), or pick a color with the color button.
Read the CMYK values: cyan, magenta, yellow and black (key) in percent.
Choose the precision if your software accepts decimals.
Copy the values in the format you need and enter them in your print or design software.
Check the notes for rich black, gray and out-of-gamut advice before sending files to print.
HEX to CMYK formula
A HEX code is an RGB color. The conversion first turns the three hex pairs into numbers from 0 to 255, scales them to 0–1, and then separates out black (K):
R' = R ÷ 255, G' = G ÷ 255, B' = B ÷ 255
K = 1 − max(R', G', B')
C = (1 − R' − K) ÷ (1 − K)
M = (1 − G' − K) ÷ (1 − K)
Y = (1 − B' − K) ÷ (1 − K)
If the color is pure black (K = 1), C, M and Y are 0. Example: #2F6B4F is RGB(47, 107, 79). max = 107 ÷ 255 = 0.42, so K = 0.58, C = (1 − 0.184 − 0.58) ÷ 0.42 ≈ 0.56, M = 0 and Y ≈ 0.26: C 56% M 0% Y 26% K 58%.

A note on print profiles
RGB and HEX describe light from a screen; CMYK describes ink on paper. There is no single “correct” CMYK value for a HEX color, because the result depends on the press, paper and ink. Print shops work with ICC profiles: Coated FOGRA39 or FOGRA51 is common in Europe, GRACoL and SWOP in North America, and Japan Color in Japan. Converting through a profile usually spreads the color over all four inks and limits the total ink.
Use the values above for quick estimates, brand sheets, mock-ups and online print services that accept plain CMYK numbers.
For professional printing, convert your artwork in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Affinity or Scribus with the profile your printer specifies, and request a proof for critical colors.
Logos with an exact brand color are often printed as a spot color instead of CMYK; see Pantone to HEX for approximate matches.
Convert the HEX code to RGB, divide each value by 255 (R', G', B'), then K = 1 − max(R', G', B'), C = (1 − R' − K) / (1 − K), M = (1 − G' − K) / (1 − K), Y = (1 − B' − K) / (1 − K). Multiply by 100 for percentages. For #FF8000 this gives C 0%, M 50%, Y 100%, K 0%.
Why are the CMYK values different in Photoshop or Illustrator?
Design software converts through an ICC color profile that models a specific press, paper and ink, such as Coated FOGRA39 or GRACoL. That usually adds some of all four inks and changes the numbers. The formula here is the standard profile-free conversion, good for quick estimates and web-to-print previews.
Will my printed color look exactly like the screen?
Not always. Screens can show brighter, more saturated colors than CMYK ink can print, especially vivid greens, blues and oranges. For brand-critical colors, order a printed proof or use a spot color from a Pantone guide.
What is the CMYK value of black #000000?
The formula gives C 0%, M 0%, Y 0%, K 100%. That is fine for text. For large black areas, printers often recommend a rich black such as C60 M40 Y40 K100 for a deeper result; ask your printer for their preferred mix.
Does CMYK support transparency?
No. CMYK describes ink amounts, so any alpha in an 8-digit HEX code is ignored. Flatten transparent colors on the paper color first, for example with the RGBA to HEX tool.
What does K stand for in CMYK?
K means key, the black plate that carries the detail in traditional four-color printing. Using K instead of mixing C, M and Y saves ink and gives sharper, neutral blacks.
