Mbps to MB per Second Converter
Internet speeds are sold in megabits per second (Mbps), but downloads show megabytes per second (MB/s). Convert between them and see how long a download will take.
Step-by-step calculation
How to use the Mbps to MB per Second Converter
- Type a value in the Megabits per second box. The megabytes per second result appears instantly.
- Going the other way? Type in the Megabytes per second box, or press the ⇄ swap button to flip the direction.
- Set the precision with the decimal places menu and adjust the options for your situation.
- Copy the result with one click, or click any row in the tables below to load it.
Megabits per second to megabytes per second formula
- Take the speed in megabits per second (Mbps).
- Divide by 8, because there are 8 bits in a byte. The result is megabytes per second (MB/s).
Example: a 100 Mbps connection downloads at up to 100 ÷ 8 = 12.5 MB/s.
Reverse formula (MB/s to Mbps): Mbps = MB/s × 8. Example: 25 MB/s × 8 = 200 Mbps.
Real downloads usually reach 85–95% of your plan's speed because of network overhead, so 100 Mbps often shows as 10–12 MB/s in browsers and game launchers.

Frequently asked questions
How many MB per second is 1 Mbps?
1 Mbps is 0.125 MB per second (125 KB/s), because there are 8 bits in a byte.
How do you convert Mbps to MB/s?
Divide Mbps by 8. For example, 200 Mbps ÷ 8 = 25 MB/s.
What is 100 Mbps in MB/s?
100 Mbps is 12.5 MB/s. A 1 GB file takes about 1 minute 20 seconds at full speed.
What is 1000 Mbps (gigabit) in MB/s?
1,000 Mbps is 125 MB/s, or about 119 MiB/s as shown by some programs.
What is the difference between Mbps and MBps?
Mbps (lowercase b) means megabits per second and is used for internet plans. MBps or MB/s (uppercase B) means megabytes per second and is used by browsers and download managers. 1 MB/s = 8 Mbps.
Why is my download speed lower than my internet plan?
Your plan is in megabits, downloads are in megabytes (8× smaller numbers), and overhead, Wi-Fi and server limits reduce real speed. Test your connection with our internet speed test.
Is this Mbps to MB per second converter free?
Yes. It is free, needs no sign-up and runs in your browser.
