How to use the How Many Pizzas Calculator
Enter how many adults, teens and kids will be eating.
Choose the pizza size and appetite, and whether pizza is the whole meal or comes with other food.
Edit the prices to match your pizzeria, and add a delivery fee or tip if you like.
Press Calculate pizzas to see how many to order, slices per person and the total cost.
Check the comparison table to see whether a different size gives the same amount of pizza for less.
How the pizza count is calculated
Slice counts differ between sizes and pizzerias, so the calculator measures appetite in large-pizza slices (one eighth of a 14-inch pizza, about 19 square inches) and converts that into pizza area:
Adults: 2, 3 or 4 large slices for a light, average or hearty appetite.
Teens: about 1⅓ times an adult. Kids: about ⅔ of an adult.
With other food: ×0.7 when sides are served, ×0.5 when pizza is only a snack.
Pizzas = total area needed ÷ area of one pizza (π × radius²), rounded up.
Example: 8 adults and 4 kids with average appetites need 8 × 3 + 4 × 2 = 32 large slices, which is 616 square inches of pizza. A 14-inch pizza has 154 square inches, so you need 4 large pizzas.

A 16-inch pizza has more than two and a half times the area of a 10-inch one, which is why bigger pizzas are usually better value.
Tips for ordering pizza for a group
Mix your toppings. Plain cheese and pepperoni are safe choices; add one vegetarian option for every few pizzas.
Ask about dietary needs early so you can order gluten-free or dairy-free pizzas, which often come only in smaller sizes.
Order big groups ahead. Many pizzerias need extra time for 10 or more pizzas, and some give a discount on large orders.
Keep it warm. Pizzas stay hot longer stacked in their boxes; a low oven around 200°F (95°C) keeps a second round ready.
Frequently asked questions
How many pizzas do I need per person?
A good rule is 3 slices of a large 14-inch pizza per adult and 2 per young child when pizza is the main meal. A large pizza cut into 8 slices therefore feeds about 2–3 adults, or 4 kids.
How many pizzas for 10 adults?
With average appetites, 10 adults eat about 30 large slices, which is 4 large 14-inch pizzas (32 slices). If you are also serving sides or salad, 3 large pizzas is usually enough.
How many slices are in a large pizza?
Most pizzerias cut a 14-inch large into 8 slices, a 12-inch medium into 8, a 10-inch small into 6, and a 16-inch extra-large into 12 smaller slices. Slice counts vary by shop, so this calculator works out how much pizza people eat by area rather than slice count.
Is it cheaper to order large or medium pizzas?
Usually large. Area grows with the square of the diameter, so a 14-inch pizza has about 36% more pizza than a 12-inch one but is rarely 36% more expensive. Compare the price per 100 square inches in the table to be sure.
How many pizzas for a kids' party?
Young children eat about 2 slices of a large pizza each. For 12 kids plus 4 adults, plan for about 36 slices' worth, which is 5 large pizzas. Kids' appetites drop when there is cake and snacks, so choose light appetite or 'served with sides' in that case.
How do I work out pizza cost per person?
Multiply the number of pizzas by the price, add any tip and delivery fee, and divide by the number of people. The calculator does this and also shows the cost of every size so you can pick the best value.
