How to use the Crop Image into Shape
Add a photo: drop, paste or choose an image. A sample photo is loaded so you can try the shapes first.
Pick a shape from the grid, or open Custom SVG shape to upload an SVG file or paste SVG code or path data.
Frame the photo: drag it inside the shape, use Zoom and Rotate, or press Fit to fill the shape again.
Style it: add an outline, choose its color and width, and pick the output aspect and size.
Download PNG: the area outside the shape is fully transparent.
Which shape for which use?
Shape
Good for
Circle
Profile pictures, team pages, avatars and stickers
Heart
Valentine's cards, wedding and anniversary posts, love collages
Star
Awards, "employee of the month", kids' party invitations
Hexagon
Tech and team pages, honeycomb photo grids, game avatars
Center the subject. Most shapes are narrower at the edges, so faces near the border of a heart or star get cut. Drag the photo until the face sits in the widest part.
Zoom in a little. A zoom of 110 to 140% usually frames portraits better than the default fit.
Use an outline on busy backgrounds. A white or colored border of 2 to 4% separates the shape from whatever it is placed on.
Keep the PNG. Only PNG (or WebP) keeps the transparent corners. Saving as JPG fills them with a solid color.
Custom shapes: icons from free SVG icon sets work well. Solid, filled icons give better results than thin line icons.
Frequently asked questions
How do I crop a picture into a heart shape?
Add your photo, click the heart in the shape grid, drag the photo so the subject sits inside the heart, adjust the zoom and press Download PNG. The corners outside the heart are transparent, so the image can be placed on any background.
Why is the background not white?
The tool saves a PNG with a transparent background, which image viewers often show as a checkerboard, white or black. When you place the PNG on a slide, website or design, only the shape is visible.
Can I use my own shape?
Yes. Upload an SVG file, paste SVG code, or paste only the path data (the d attribute, like M10 10 L90 10 ...). Everything that is filled or visible in the SVG becomes the shape, whatever its color.
What size will the image be?
Choose 512, 1080, 2048 or 4096 pixels for the longest side. If you pick a size larger than the part of the photo inside the shape, the photo is enlarged and may look soft, so 1080 px is a good default for social media.
Can I save as JPG?
JPG does not support transparency, so the corners would become a solid color. Download the PNG; if you need a JPG, convert it afterwards with a PNG to JPG converter and choose a background color.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. The photo is cut out with the Canvas API inside your browser and never leaves your device.
