How to use the Crypto Portfolio Profit & Loss Tracker
Add each trade: date, coin symbol, buy or sell, quantity, price per coin and the fee you paid.
Enter today's price for each coin in the Current prices box.
Pick a cost method: average cost or FIFO, which decides the profit on each sale.
Read your portfolio: value, unrealized and realized P&L, and the allocation chart.
Download a backup to keep your data safe or move it to another device.
Formulas behind the tracker
Cost of a buy = quantity × price + fee.
Average cost = cost of coins held ÷ coins held.
Realized P&L on a sell = (quantity × sale price − fee) − cost of the coins sold. With average cost, cost sold = quantity × average cost; with FIFO it is the cost of the oldest coins still held.
Unrealized P&L = coins held × current price − cost of coins held.
Return on all buys = (realized + unrealized P&L) ÷ total spent on buys, fees included.
Example
You buy 0.15 BTC at $46,000 (fee $10) and 0.10 BTC at $54,000 (fee $8). Cost = $6,910 + $5,408 = $12,318 for 0.25 BTC, so the average cost is $49,272. You then sell 0.08 BTC at $82,000 with a $9 fee: proceeds $6,551, cost sold 0.08 × $49,272 = $3,941.76, realized profit $2,609.24. The remaining 0.17 BTC cost $8,376.24; at a price of $95,000 they are worth $16,150, an unrealized gain of $7,773.76.

Tips for accurate tracking
Record every trade, including small ones; a missing buy makes later sells look like they sold more than you held.
Use one currency for all prices and fees, the one you think about your profit in.
Treat a coin-to-coin swap as two trades: a sell of the first coin and a buy of the second at their value in your currency.
Download a backup after big updates; browser data can be cleared.
Frequently asked questions
How is the average cost of a coin calculated?
Average cost = total amount paid for the coins you hold (price × quantity plus fees) ÷ number of coins held. A buy changes the average. A sell removes coins at the current average, so the average of the remaining coins stays the same under the average cost method.
What is the difference between realized and unrealized P&L?
Realized profit or loss comes from coins you have already sold: sale proceeds after fees minus the cost of the coins sold. Unrealized P&L is the paper gain or loss on coins you still hold: current value minus their cost basis. It changes with the price until you sell.
Average cost or FIFO: which should I use?
Average cost is simple and is what many exchanges and apps display. FIFO matches sells against your oldest coins first and is the default method in many tax systems, including for US investors who do not identify specific units. Total P&L across everything is the same; the method only changes how it is split between realized and unrealized.
Where do the current prices come from?
You type them in. The tracker deliberately does not connect to any exchange or price service, so it works offline and never reveals your holdings. Copy the latest price from your exchange or a market site when you want an up-to-date valuation.
How are fees handled?
Buy fees are added to the cost of the coins bought. Sell fees are subtracted from the sale proceeds. Enter fees in your chosen currency; for fees paid in coin, convert them at the trade price.
Is my portfolio data private?
Yes. Transactions and prices are saved only in your browser's local storage on this device. Nothing is sent to a server. Use Download backup to keep a copy, because clearing your browser data will remove it.
Can I use this for taxes?
It gives a useful estimate of realized gains, but it does not handle transfers between wallets, staking rewards, airdrops, swaps between coins or wash-sale and country-specific rules. Use it alongside your exchange statements or dedicated tax software, and treat the numbers as informational, not tax advice.
