Love Calculator
Type two names and press Calculate to see your love percentage. The same two names always give the same score, in any order, so you can test your crush, your partner or your favourite celebrity couple.

How to use the Love Calculator
- Enter your name in the first box and your crush's or partner's name in the second.
- Choose a method: Name hash, or the classic LOVES letter-count game.
- Press Calculate love and wait for the heartbeat.
- Read your score on the heart meter, along with a message for your range.
- Share it with Copy result or Download PNG, or press Try another to test new names.
The two methods explained
Name hash. Both names are normalised: converted to lower case, accents removed (Γ© becomes e), punctuation dropped and extra spaces collapsed. The two names are then sorted alphabetically, so "Juliet + Romeo" is the same as "Romeo + Juliet", joined together and passed through the FNV-1a hash function. The resulting 32-bit number is divided by 101 and the remainder, a whole number from 0 to 100, is the score. Change one letter and the score jumps to a completely different value.
LOVES letter count. This is the pen-and-paper version many people played at school. Count how often each letter of the word LOVES appears in both names together, then keep adding neighbouring numbers until only two digits remain. Sums of 10 or more are reduced by adding their digits (12 becomes 1 + 2 = 3).
Worked LOVES example
| Step | Romeo + Juliet |
|---|---|
| Count L, O, V, E, S | 1 2 0 2 0 |
| Add neighbours | 3 2 2 2 |
| Add neighbours | 5 4 4 |
| Add neighbours | 9 8 |
| Result | 98% |
Because only the letters L, O, V, E and S count, names without any of them, such as "Ann" and "Bart", score 0% with this method. Try the name hash method for those.
What the scores mean
| Score | Message |
|---|---|
| 0β20% | π Not quite a match made in heaven |
| 21β40% | π± There is a little spark |
| 41β60% | π Real potential |
| 61β75% | π Great chemistry |
| 76β90% | π A fantastic match |
| 91β100% | π Soulmates |
Remember that every number here comes from spelling alone. Treat a low score as a joke, not a warning, and a high one as an excuse to smile. If you want to know how compatible you really are, talk to each other.
Frequently asked questions
Is the love calculator accurate?
No, and it isn't meant to be. It is a game for fun: the score comes from the letters in the names, which have nothing to do with how two people actually get along. Real compatibility depends on things like communication, shared values and respect.
How does the love calculator work?
With the Name hash method, both names are cleaned up (lower case, single spaces, accents removed), put in alphabetical order and run through a hash function that turns them into a number from 0 to 100. With the LOVES method, it counts the letters L, O, V, E and S in both names and adds neighbouring numbers until two digits are left.
Why do I get the same result every time?
The score is calculated from the names, not picked at random, so the same pair always gives the same percentage. Swapping the order of the names, or typing them in capitals, does not change it either.
What is the LOVES method?
It is a playground game. Write down how many times the letters L, O, V, E and S appear in both names, for example 1 2 0 2 0 for Romeo and Juliet. Add each pair of neighbours (1+2, 2+0, 0+2, 2+0) to get 3 2 2 2, repeat to get 5 4 4, then 9 8. The last two digits, 98, are the love percentage. If a sum is 10 or more, its digits are added together.
Can I use nicknames or full names?
Yes, any text works. Full names, nicknames and names with spaces all give different scores, so try a few variations for fun.
Are the names I enter saved?
No. Everything runs in your browser and nothing is sent to a server or stored. Only your preferred method is remembered on this device.
