      The blending methods

      MethodRuleExample
Sound blendFirst consonants of name 1 + name 2 from its first vowelBr(ad) + Angelina = Brangelina
Overlap blendThe end of name 1 continues into name 2 where the letters matchBen + (Je)nnifer = Bennifer
Syllable splitStart of name 1 up to a syllable + end of name 2Oliv(ia) + (J)ames = Olivames
Shared-letter blendName 1 up to a letter that also appears in name 2, then name 2 from that letterSoph(ia) + (Dan)iel = Sophiel

What makes a good couple name

      • Both names stay recognizable. The best blends keep the start of one name and the ending of the other.
      • It is easy to say. Joins between a consonant and a vowel (Bra-ngelina) sound smoother than two vowels or three consonants in a row.
      • It is not too long. A blend about as long as the longer name works best for hashtags and nicknames.
      • Shared letters help. When the names share a sound, the overlap makes the blend feel natural.

Ideas for using your couple name

Use it as a wedding hashtag (#Olivames2026), a joint social media or streaming account, a name for your shared home or boat, a team name for couples' game nights, or a fun way to announce a relationship. Fans use ship names to talk about fictional couples. Curious about compatibility too? Try the Love Calculator or Zodiac Compatibility.

      Frequently asked questions

      What is a ship name?

A ship name (from relationship) is a blend of two people's names, used by fans for a couple they support, such as famous celebrity blends. Couples also use them for wedding hashtags, joint social accounts and pet names.

How does the generator combine names?

It builds every reasonable split: the start of one name with the end of the other (syllable split), the first consonants of one name with the rest of the other from its first vowel (sound blend, the Brangelina pattern), and joins where both names share letters (overlap, the Bennifer pattern). Each result is scored and the best are shown first.

      How are the results ranked?

Points are added for a natural length, a smooth join between a consonant and a vowel, shared letters, cutting at a syllable boundary and keeping a big recognizable part of both names. Points are taken away for awkward clusters such as three hard consonants, three vowels in a row, triple letters or names that are just one of the originals.

Can I use it for a baby name?

Yes, many parents look for a baby name that blends both their names. The top results are often pronounceable, but check that a blend works as a real first name, or try the Baby Name Generator for established names.

Why do I get different results when I swap the names?

The first part of a blend comes from one name and the ending from the other, so Olivia + James gives different blends than James + Olivia. Keep Both name orders ticked to see both.

Are the names I type saved?

Only the last two names and favorites are stored in your own browser so the page remembers them. Nothing is uploaded.
