How to record clear audio online

  1. Allow microphone access. Click "Test microphone" or the red record button and allow access when your browser asks.
  2. Check your level. Speak normally and adjust the input gain so the meter peaks in the green and yellow.
  3. Record. Press the red button to start. Use Pause to take a break, and press the button again to stop.
  4. Download. Play back your recording, then download it as WAV (best quality), MP3 (smaller) or the original WebM/M4A file.

Tips for clean, clear recordings

  • Record in a small room with soft furnishings. Curtains, carpets and sofas reduce echo.
  • Keep the microphone about a hand's width (10–20 cm) from your mouth and slightly to the side to avoid pops.
  • Turn off fans and close windows. Noise suppression helps, but less noise is always better.
  • Leave automatic gain off and set the input gain yourself for a consistent volume.
  • Wear headphones if you turn on "Hear yourself" or record near speakers.

What each setting does

Noise suppression, echo cancellation and automatic gain are processed by your browser's audio engine, the same technology used for video calls. The low-cut filter removes sound below 80 Hz, where voices carry little information but rumble lives. The voice leveler is a gentle compressor that brings quiet words up and keeps loud ones from jumping out. Input gain boosts or reduces the microphone signal before recording.

Frequently asked questions

Is this online audio recorder free?

Yes. It's free with no time limit, no sign-up and no watermark.

Are my recordings uploaded?

No. Audio is recorded and processed in your browser and stays on your device until you download it.

Which format should I download?

WAV is uncompressed and best for editing. MP3 is smaller and plays everywhere. WebM (or M4A on Safari) is the original recording from your browser and the smallest file.

Why can't I see my microphone?

Your browser only shows microphone names after you allow access. Click "Test microphone", allow access, and the list fills in. Also check that no other app is using the microphone.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes, in current versions of Safari, Chrome and Firefox. On iPhone, some settings such as noise suppression are controlled by iOS and may not change.
