Voice Changer
Record your voice with the microphone or open an audio file, then tap an effect to hear yourself as a chipmunk, a robot, an alien, a deep-voiced giant or an old radio announcer. Fine-tune the pitch and strength and download the result as a WAV file. Nothing is uploaded.

Press Record, speak, then press Stop (max 5 minutes). Your browser will ask for microphone access.

- Record or upload: press Record and speak (press Stop when done), or drop an audio file on the upload box.
- Choose an effect such as Chipmunk, Robot or Alien. It is applied and played automatically.
- Fine-tune the pitch in semitones and the effect strength. The preview updates after each change.
- Play original to compare, or click the waveform to jump to any point.
- Press Download WAV to save the changed voice to your device.
What each voice effect does
| Effect | How it is made | Sounds like |
|---|---|---|
| Chipmunk | Pitch raised 8 semitones (frequency × 1.59), speed kept | Cartoon chipmunks, helium voice |
| Deep | Pitch lowered 5 semitones (frequency × 0.75) plus a bass boost | Giant, movie trailer narrator |
| Robot | Ring modulation with a 55 Hz sine wave and a short metallic feedback delay | Sci-fi robot, synthetic speech |
| Echo | 300 ms delay with filtered feedback | Shouting across a valley |
| Alien | Pitch +3 semitones, fast vibrato and a light 240 Hz ring modulation | Warbling space creature |
| Radio | Band-pass 450–3000 Hz, mid boost, soft distortion, compression and hiss | AM radio, walkie-talkie, old telephone |
| Reverse | Samples played from the end to the start | Backwards speech |
| Cave | Convolution reverb with a generated 2–4 second impulse | Cathedral, cave, huge hall |
| Underwater | Resonant low-pass filter swept slowly, plus a gentle wobble | Talking under water or through a wall |
Pitch, semitones and speed
Pitch is the perceived highness of a sound and depends on frequency. Shifting by n semitones multiplies every frequency by 2n/12: +12 semitones doubles the frequency (one octave up), −12 halves it, and +7 is about × 1.50. An adult speaking voice has a fundamental frequency of roughly 85–180 Hz for typical male voices and 165–255 Hz for typical female voices, so +8 semitones moves a 120 Hz voice to about 190 Hz.
Simply playing audio faster also raises the pitch, but it makes speech hurried, like a fast-forwarded tape. With Keep original speed switched on, this tool first stretches the audio in time using WSOLA (waveform-similarity overlap-add), which repeats or skips tiny slices of the waveform at points where they line up, and then resamples it. The result has the new pitch at the original tempo. Untick the option to get the classic tape effect where pitch and speed change together.
Tips for a better result
- Record in a quiet room and keep the microphone 10–20 cm from your mouth. Background noise is changed along with your voice.
- Large pitch changes (beyond ±8 semitones) sound more artificial. For a believable deeper voice try −3 to −5 semitones.
- Combine pitch with an effect: Robot at −4 semitones sounds like a big machine, Radio at +2 like a cartoon announcer.
- Exaggerate your delivery. Talking slowly helps the Robot effect, and short phrases make Echo easier to hear.
Frequently asked questions
How does the voice changer work?
Your audio is decoded in the browser and passed through Web Audio effects. Pitch is shifted with a time-stretching algorithm (WSOLA) followed by resampling, so the voice goes higher or lower without changing its speed. Effects such as robot, echo and radio are built from ring modulation, delays, filters and distortion.
Is my recording uploaded anywhere?
No. The microphone recording and any file you open are processed entirely on your device. Nothing is sent to a server and nothing is stored after you close the page.
How do I make a chipmunk voice?
Choose the Chipmunk effect, which raises the pitch by 8 semitones while keeping the original speed. Move the Pitch slider up to +12 for an even squeakier voice, or untick Keep original speed for the classic sped-up tape sound.
What is a semitone?
A semitone is the smallest step in Western music, one twelfth of an octave. Raising audio by 12 semitones doubles its frequency (one octave up) and lowering it by 12 semitones halves it. Each semitone multiplies the frequency by about 1.0595.
Why does the microphone not work?
Your browser asks for permission the first time you press Record. If you blocked it, click the camera or lock icon in the address bar and allow the microphone, then try again. Recording also requires a secure (https) page, which this site uses.
What format is the download?
A 16-bit PCM WAV file at 44.1 kHz. WAV plays everywhere and keeps full quality. Use the WAV to MP3 converter if you need a smaller file to share.
Can I use the voice changer on a song or video?
Yes. Open any audio file, or a WebM video, and the soundtrack is processed. Effects are designed for speech, so music may sound unusual, especially with large pitch changes.
