Convert lossless FLAC music into MP3s that fit on your phone, car stick or MP3 player. Add a whole album, pick 320 kbps or another bitrate, and the converter keeps track titles, artists and album art. Everything runs on your device.
MP3 quality
Hi-res FLAC: MP3 supports sample rates up to 48 kHz, so 96 and 192 kHz files become 48 kHz MP3s and 88.2 and 176.4 kHz files become 44.1 kHz. The extra bit depth of 24-bit files is not needed for MP3.

How to use the FLAC to MP3
Add your FLAC files: drop a whole album folder's files on the box, or click Choose FLAC files.
Choose the MP3 bitrate: 320 kbps keeps the most quality, 192 or 256 kbps saves space.
Keep tags and album art stays ticked so your music app shows the right titles and covers.
Press Convert to MP3 and watch each track's progress.
Download single tracks, or Download all (ZIP) for the whole album.
FLAC to MP3: size at each bitrate
MP3 uses a fixed number of bits per second, so its size depends only on length and bitrate: size in bytes = bitrate in bits per second × seconds ÷ 8. FLAC size depends on the music; CD-quality FLAC (16-bit, 44.1 kHz stereo) is typically 50 to 70% of the 1,411 kbps WAV rate.

Hi-res FLAC and MP3 sample rates
MPEG-1 Layer III (MP3) only supports 32, 44.1 and 48 kHz (plus lower rates for MPEG-2), so hi-res files are converted down within the same family to avoid uneven resampling:
44.1, 88.2, 176.4 kHz sources become 44.1 kHz MP3s.
48, 96, 192 kHz sources become 48 kHz MP3s.
Bit depth does not exist in MP3: the encoder works from the decoded floating-point samples, so 24-bit sources lose nothing to rounding before encoding.
Hearing extends to about 20 kHz, and a 44.1 kHz sample rate already reproduces frequencies up to 22.05 kHz, so the lower rate does not remove audible content.
Keep your FLAC masters
Because MP3 is lossy, converting MP3 back to FLAC cannot restore the removed detail. Keep the FLAC files as your archive and make MP3 copies for phones, cars and portable players. When you need a different MP3 bitrate later, convert again from the FLAC rather than from an existing MP3.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert FLAC to MP3 for free?
Add your FLAC files, keep 320 kbps or choose another bitrate, and press Convert to MP3. The files are decoded and encoded in your browser, so it is free, needs no account and nothing is uploaded. Download each MP3 or the whole batch as a ZIP.
Which bitrate should I use for FLAC to MP3?
Use 320 kbps, the highest MP3 bitrate, when you want the best quality from a lossless source. 256 kbps is practically indistinguishable for most listeners, and 192 kbps is a good choice when space matters.
Will I lose quality converting FLAC to MP3?
Yes, a little: FLAC is lossless and MP3 is lossy, so some inaudible detail is removed. At 256 or 320 kbps most people cannot tell the difference in blind listening tests. Keep your FLAC files as the master copy.
How much smaller is the MP3?
CD-quality FLAC is usually 600 to 1,100 kbps, so a 320 kbps MP3 is roughly a third to a half of the size, and a 192 kbps MP3 about a fifth. A 40-minute album is about 96 MB at 320 kbps and 58 MB at 192 kbps.
Are tags and album art kept?
Yes. The FLAC Vorbis comments (title, artist, album, album artist, track and disc number, year, genre, composer, comment) and the embedded front cover are written into the MP3 as an ID3v2.3 tag.
Can it convert 24-bit / 96 kHz hi-res FLAC?
Yes. MP3 supports at most 48 kHz, so 96 and 192 kHz files are resampled to 48 kHz, and 88.2 or 176.4 kHz files to 44.1 kHz. The 24-bit resolution is used during decoding, so nothing is truncated before encoding.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Decoding uses your browser's built-in FLAC decoder and the MP3 is encoded with a JavaScript build of LAME on your device. Large albums need enough free memory but never leave your computer.
