Ghost Touch Test
Find out whether your touchscreen is pressing itself. Start the test, put the device down and keep your hands away: every touch the screen reports is logged with where and when it happened, then shown as a heatmap and timeline.

How to use the Ghost Touch Test
- Choose a test length. Two minutes is a good first check; use 10 or 30 minutes for problems that only happen now and then.
- Press Start ghost touch test. The test area goes full screen and a hands-off countdown begins.
- Lay the device flat and do not touch it. Recreate the situation where ghost touches happen, for example with the charger plugged in.
- Watch for red markers. Each one is a touch the screen reported on its own. The test stops when the time is up, or press Stop test.
- Read the results: the verdict, heatmap, timeline and touch log show how often and where phantom touches happened. Download the CSV to compare runs.
Reading your ghost touch results
The test treats every contact as a ghost touch, because the screen should report nothing while you are not touching it. The pattern of the contacts says more than the number alone:
| What you see | Likely cause | What to try next |
|---|---|---|
| No touches at all | Screen is fine under these conditions | Repeat while charging, when warm, or inside the app where the problem happens |
| One or two isolated touches | Could be a bump, a sleeve or the case edge | Run again on a table with nothing near the screen |
| Touches only while the charger is plugged in | Electrical noise from the charger or cable | Test with a different certified charger and cable |
| Cluster along one edge or corner | Case or screen protector pressing the panel, lifted protector, frame pressure | Remove the case and protector, clean the edge and test again |
| Touches in a straight line or band | Damaged digitizer or loose display connector | Check for cracks; a repair shop can test the digitizer |
| Contacts held for several seconds ("stuck") | Moisture, dirt or a pressure point on the glass | Dry and clean the screen; look for a crack or bubble at that spot |
| Random touches all over, in bursts | Touch controller fault, overheating or a software issue | Let the device cool, restart, update; try safe mode on Android |
Tips for a reliable test
- Lay the device flat on a dry, non-metal surface. Holding it or resting it on your lap can create real touches through your clothing.
- Recreate the problem. Ghost touches are often conditional. Run one test unplugged and one while charging, or one cold and one after a game, and compare the CSV logs.
- Change one thing at a time. Remove the case, then the screen protector, then swap the charger, testing after each step, so you know which change made the difference.
- Keep the screen awake. The test asks the browser to keep the screen on. If your browser cannot, set the screen timeout longer than the test, because a locked screen cannot report touches.
- Use full screen. Phantom touches near the status bar or navigation bar are only caught when the test area covers the whole display. On iPhone, where web pages cannot go fully full screen, the page fills the browser window instead.
What gets logged
Each ghost touch is one contact, from the moment the screen reports it until it is released. For every contact the log records the start time since monitoring began, the start position as a percentage of the screen width and height, the screen area (for example "top-right" or "bottom center"), how long it was held, how far it moved in pixels, and the input type the browser reported (touch, pen or mouse). Pressure and contact size are included in the CSV when the device provides them. The heatmap adds up start points and movement, so a touch that slides across the screen colors every cell it passes through.
Frequently asked questions
What is a ghost touch?
A ghost touch (or phantom touch) is a tap, swipe or press that the touchscreen reports when nobody is touching it. Apps open on their own, text gets typed, or the screen scrolls by itself. It is usually caused by electrical noise, moisture, pressure on the panel or a failing touch controller.
How does this ghost touch test work?
After a short hands-off countdown the page listens for touch, pen and (optionally) mouse pointer events on a full-screen area. Since you are not touching the screen, every contact it reports is logged as a ghost touch with its position, time and duration, and summarized as a heatmap and timeline.
How long should I run the test?
Two minutes is enough to catch frequent ghost touches. Intermittent problems may need 10 to 30 minutes. Keep the device in the conditions where the problem appears, such as charging, warm after gaming, or held in its case, because many ghost touches only happen then.
What does it mean if ghost touches appear only while charging?
Touches that show up only with the charger connected usually point to electrical noise from a low-quality or damaged charger or cable. Try a different, certified charger and cable and run the test again; if the touches disappear, the charger was the cause.
Why are the ghost touches all along the edge of the screen?
A cluster at the edge often comes from pressure or moisture at the frame: a tight case, a lifted or bubbled screen protector, dirt under the protector, or a screen that is separating from the frame. Remove the case and protector and test again to check.
Can a ghost touch test fix the problem?
No web page can repair hardware, but the log helps you find the cause. Clean and dry the screen, remove the protector and case, try another charger, restart the device and install updates. If phantom touches continue in the same spot, the digitizer or display likely needs repair.
Is my touch data uploaded anywhere?
No. The test runs entirely in your browser. Touch positions are kept only in the page while it is open and are never sent anywhere. Downloads are created on your device.
