Recommended lengths and sizes
| Tag | Recommended | Why |
|---|---|---|
| <title> | 50–60 characters (under ~600 px) | Longer titles are cut in Google results |

| og:image | 1200 × 630 px, JPG or PNG, under 5 MB | Sharp on Facebook, LinkedIn, X and WhatsApp |
| twitter:card | summary_large_image | Shows a big image instead of a small thumbnail |
| canonical | Full https:// URL of the page | Tells search engines which URL is the main one |
Where do I put meta tags?
Paste the generated code inside the <head> section of your HTML, before </head>. In WordPress, use your SEO plugin's fields or your theme's header settings. On site builders such as Shopify, Wix or Squarespace, look for the page's SEO or social sharing settings. After publishing, you can check the share card with each network's own preview or debugging tool, which also refreshes old cached previews.
Frequently asked questions
What are meta tags?
Meta tags are HTML tags in the head of a page that describe it to search engines and social networks. They are not shown on the page itself, but they control the title and snippet in Google and the card people see when your link is shared.
How long should a meta title be?
Aim for about 50 to 60 characters. Google cuts titles by width, roughly 600 pixels on desktop, so the tool also measures the pixel width and shows exactly where the title would be cut.
How long should a meta description be?
Around 120 to 160 characters works best. Longer descriptions are usually shortened with an ellipsis in search results.
What are Open Graph tags?
Open Graph (og:) tags tell Facebook, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, Discord, Slack and many other apps which title, description and image to show when your link is shared.
Do I need separate Twitter tags?
X reads Open Graph tags as a fallback, but twitter:card is required to choose the card style, so the generator always includes it together with matching twitter: tags.
Does the meta keywords tag help SEO?
Google ignores the keywords meta tag. It's optional here and only useful for some internal site search tools.
What size should the share image be?
Use 1200 × 630 pixels (a 1.91:1 ratio) as a JPG or PNG under 5 MB. It displays well on Facebook, LinkedIn and as an X large image card.
