How do I find my Place ID?
- Open Google's Place ID Finder.
- Type your business name in the search box on the map and pick it from the list.
- Copy the Place ID from the pop-up (it usually starts with
ChIJ) and paste it above.
Shortcut: if you manage the business on Google Business Profile, search your business name on Google, click Ask for reviews (or Get more reviews) and Google gives you a ready short link. You can paste that link above too, to make a QR code and card for it.
Customers scan it with their phone camera to open the review form. Print it at least 2 cm (0.8 in) wide.

Google link formats for a Place ID
Once you know your Place ID, Google supports several direct URLs. The generator builds all three; replace PLACE_ID with your own ID if you write them by hand.
| Link | Opens | Format |
|---|---|---|
| Write a review | The review form with the star rating ready to tap | https://search.google.com/local/writereview?placeid=PLACE_ID |
| Read reviews | Your existing reviews | https://search.google.com/local/reviews?placeid=PLACE_ID |
| Google Maps | Your business on Google Maps | https://www.google.com/maps/place/?q=place_id:PLACE_ID |
Where to use your review link and QR code
| Channel | Best format | Tip |
|---|---|---|
| Counter, tables, waiting room | 4 × 6 in table card | Place it where customers wait for a minute, such as the checkout or reception. |
| Receipts, packaging, invoices | Business card or sticker | Keep the QR code at least 2 cm (0.8 in) wide so older phones can scan it. |
| Follow-up email or text | Link in the message | Send it within a day of the visit, while the experience is fresh. |
| Email signature, website | Link or button | Add "Review us on Google" next to your contact details. |
Asking for reviews the right way
- Ask everyone. Sending requests only to customers you expect to be happy (review gating) is against Google's policies.
- No rewards. Discounts, gifts or contest entries in exchange for reviews break Google's rules and the FTC's consumer review rule.
- Do not write reviews yourself or ask staff, friends or agencies to post them. Google removes fake reviews and can restrict the listing.
- Reply to reviews, positive and negative, politely and quickly. Future customers read the replies too.
Frequently asked questions
How do I get a direct link to leave a Google review?
Use the address https://search.google.com/local/writereview?placeid= followed by your business's Place ID. Opening it takes the customer straight to your review form, so they do not have to search for your business and find the review button. This tool builds that link for you.
What is a Google Place ID?
A Place ID is a unique text code Google uses to identify a place in Google Maps, such as ChIJN1t_tDeuEmsRUsoyG83frY4. Business Place IDs usually start with ChIJ and are about 27 characters long. Find yours with Google's free Place ID Finder by searching your business name on the map.
Is there an official Google review link?
Yes. If you manage your business on Google Business Profile, search for your business on Google or open the profile, and click Ask for reviews (or Get more reviews). Google shows a short link that opens the review form. You can paste that link into this tool to get a QR code and printable card for it.
Does the review link work on phones?
Yes. On Android and iPhone the link opens the review form in the browser or in the Google Maps app, and the customer is asked to sign in to a Google account if they are not already, because Google only accepts reviews from signed-in users.
Can I offer customers a discount for a Google review?
No. Google's policies prohibit offering or accepting money, discounts, free products or other incentives for reviews, and the US Federal Trade Commission's rule on consumer reviews (in effect since October 2024) bans incentives conditioned on a positive review. Asking every customer politely, without a reward, is allowed.
Can I ask only happy customers for reviews?
Google's policies prohibit selectively soliciting positive reviews, sometimes called review gating, for example sending unhappy customers to a private feedback form and happy ones to Google. Send the same review request to all customers.
Will the link change if my business moves?
A Place ID normally stays the same, but Google can change it when a listing is merged, moved or significantly updated. Test your link from time to time, especially before a large print run, and generate a new one if it no longer opens your business.
