Sitemap URL Extractor
Paste a sitemap.xml, upload one or more sitemap files (including .xml.gz) or a sitemap index, and get a clean, searchable list of every URL with its lastmod date. The extractor also checks the sitemap against the sitemaps.org protocol and exports to CSV or TXT.

This is a sitemap index. Fetch the child sitemaps (works only if the site allows it) or upload them in the Upload files tab to merge their URLs.

How to use the Sitemap URL Extractor
- Add your sitemap: paste the XML, upload one or more files (.xml, .xml.gz or .txt), or try fetching it by URL.
- Click Extract URLs. Every URL appears in the table with its lastmod, changefreq and priority.
- Check the validation panel for errors such as relative URLs, duplicates or invalid dates.
- For a sitemap index, load the child sitemaps listed (fetch them or upload them) and they are merged into one list.
- Filter and export: search for a path, then download the list as CSV or TXT, or copy all URLs.

Sitemap limits
- 50,000 URLs and 50 MB (52,428,800 bytes) uncompressed per sitemap file. Gzip compression reduces transfer size but not the limit.
- 50,000 sitemaps per sitemap index. Indexes cannot contain other indexes.
- Same host: a sitemap at
example.com/sitemap.xmlshould only list URLs onexample.com, unless you verified the other hosts in search engine tools. - Canonical URLs only: leave out redirects, error pages, noindex pages and duplicate parameter variants.
Typical uses for the extracted list
Use the TXT export to crawl or audit every listed page, to compare the sitemap with your analytics or Search Console coverage, or to find pages that are missing or should not be there. Sort by lastmod to see stale content, filter by folder to count pages per section, and test important paths against your crawler rules with the Robots.txt Tester. To build a new file from a list of URLs, use the Sitemap Generator.
Frequently asked questions
How do I extract all URLs from a sitemap?
Open the sitemap in your browser (usually yoursite.com/sitemap.xml), copy its source and paste it here, or save it and upload the file. Click Extract URLs to get the full list, then download it as TXT (one URL per line) or CSV with lastmod and other fields.
What is a sitemap index?
A sitemap index is a sitemap of sitemaps: its root element is sitemapindex and each entry points to another sitemap file. Large sites use it because a single sitemap may contain at most 50,000 URLs and 50 MB uncompressed. Load the child files to see all page URLs.
Why does fetching a sitemap by URL fail?
Browsers only let a page read files from another site when that site sends a CORS header allowing it, and most sites do not for sitemap.xml. When fetching fails, open the sitemap in a new tab, save it or copy its source, and upload or paste it instead. Nothing is sent to FreeToolCabin either way.
What does the validator check?
It checks the root element and the sitemaps.org namespace, that every entry has an absolute http or https loc, URL length, duplicate URLs, URLs on different hosts, W3C datetime format of lastmod, valid changefreq and priority values, and the 50,000 URL and 50 MB size limits.
Does Google use changefreq and priority?
No. Google has said it ignores changefreq and priority values, and uses lastmod only when it is consistently accurate. Keeping lastmod correct is worth more than tuning the other two tags.
Can it read compressed .xml.gz sitemaps?
Yes. Gzip files are decompressed in your browser with the built-in DecompressionStream API, supported by all current major browsers.
Are all the tools on FreeToolCabin tested for quality and accuracy?
Yes! Every tool on our site undergoes automated Q/A testing in real browser environments to ensure high precision, correct output, and zero errors. If you happen to spot a bug or have a suggestion, please contact us at [email protected] and our team will review it right away.
