Find out how long a video, lecture, audiobook or podcast really takes at 1.25×, 1.5×, 2× or any speed, how much time you save, and what speed you need to finish before a deadline. Paste a whole episode or chapter list to total it in one go.

How to use the Playback Speed Calculator
Paste the length of your video, audiobook or podcast, or a list of items one per line.
Pick the mode: how long at a speed, or the speed needed to finish in time.
Enter the speed (for example 1.5) or the hours and minutes you have.
Optionally add what you have already finished and how many minutes a day you listen.
Read the result and compare speeds in the table and chart.
Playback speed formula
Time at speed = original length ÷ speed · Time saved = length − length ÷ speed · Speed needed = length ÷ time available
Example: an 11 h 42 min audiobook (702 minutes) at 1.5× takes 702 ÷ 1.5 = 468 minutes, or 7 h 48 min, saving 3 h 54 min. At 45 minutes of listening a day that is 11 days instead of 16.

Tips for faster listening and watching
Ramp up slowly: move up 0.1× to 0.25× at a time; after a few sessions the new speed feels normal.
Match the content: conversational podcasts handle higher speeds than lectures with formulas, foreign-language material or music.
Use pitch correction: most players keep the voice pitch natural when speeding up, which keeps speech clear.
Slow down when needed: drop back to 1× for key parts rather than rewinding repeatedly.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate the length of a video at 1.5× speed?
Divide the original length by the speed. A 60-minute video at 1.5× takes 60 ÷ 1.5 = 40 minutes, saving 20 minutes. At 2× it takes 30 minutes and at 1.25× it takes 48 minutes.
How much time does 2× speed save?
Exactly half. Playing at 2× makes anything take 50% of its normal length, so a 10-hour audiobook takes 5 hours. In general the time saved is length × (1 − 1 ÷ speed).
What speed do I need to finish in a set amount of time?
Divide the remaining length by the time you have. To finish 3 hours of lectures in 2 hours you need 3 ÷ 2 = 1.5×. If the answer is below 1, normal speed is already enough.
Is listening at faster speeds bad for comprehension?
Many people follow clear speech comfortably at 1.25× to 1.5×, and with practice at 2× or more. Dense or technical material, accents or music usually need slower speeds. Try increasing the speed gradually and slow down for difficult parts.
Why does 1.25× save only 20%, not 25%?
Because the time is divided by the speed, not reduced by the percentage. 1 ÷ 1.25 = 0.8, so the content takes 80% of its length and you save 20%. At 1.5× you save 33.3%, not 50%.
Can I add up several episodes or chapters?
Yes. Paste one item per line, with or without titles, for example 'Episode 4 – 52:10'. The calculator totals them, shows each item at your chosen speed and keeps a running total.
What formats can I enter?
h:mm:ss (1:05:30), mm:ss (45:10), text units such as 1h 20m or 95 min, or plain numbers, which are treated as minutes, hours or seconds depending on the setting.
