How the composite score works
| Component | Events | Max points |
|---|---|---|
| Cardio | 1.5-mile run or 20 m HAMR | 60 |
| Strength | Push-ups (1 min) or hand-release push-ups (2 min) | 20 |
| Core | Sit-ups (1 min), cross-legged reverse crunch (2 min) or forearm plank | 20 |
| Composite | 100 | |
Ratings: Excellent 90+ · Satisfactory 75-89.9 · Unsatisfactory below 75 or any component minimum missed. Body composition: waist-to-height ratio below 0.55 meets the standard (for example, a 70 in tall Airman meets it with a waist under 38.5 in).
Built-in standards (minimum / maximum)
Approximate values used by the calculator, based on the 2021-2025 PFA format. Hand-release push-ups and reverse crunches are not included; enter their official values in the override fields if you test with them.

Tips
- Cardio is 60% of the score, so a faster run usually moves the composite more than extra reps.
- Pick the core event that suits you: some Airmen score far better on the plank than on one-minute sit-ups.
- Run a practice 1.5 miles a few weeks before the test to set an even target pace (goal time ÷ 1.5 per mile).
Frequently asked questions
What is on the Air Force PT test?
The Air Force fitness assessment (PFA) has a cardio component (the 1.5-mile run or the 20-meter High Aerobic Multi-shuttle Run, HAMR), a strength component (one minute of push-ups or hand-release push-ups) and a core component (one minute of sit-ups, cross-legged reverse crunches or a forearm plank).
How is the Air Force PT test scored?
In the 2021-2025 format, cardio is worth up to 60 points and strength and core up to 20 points each, for a composite of 100. You need a composite of at least 75 and must meet the minimum in every component. A composite of 90 or more is rated Excellent.
What is the HAMR?
The HAMR is a 20-meter shuttle run to audio beeps that get faster each level. Your score is the number of shuttles completed. It is an alternative to the 1.5-mile run and is often chosen by Airmen who prefer short bursts or have no suitable running track.
Is waist measurement still part of the Air Force PT test?
The abdominal circumference component was removed from the scored test in 2021. Body composition is screened separately with a waist-to-height ratio, where a ratio below 0.55 meets the standard. The Air Force announced that a revised PFA phasing in from 2026 adds a scored waist-to-height component, so check which version applies to you.
How accurate is this Air Force PT calculator?
It is an estimate. It uses approximate minimum and maximum standards for each age group and sex, with points interpolated linearly. Official charts assign points to specific times and reps and change over time, so enter values from your current official chart in the override fields for the closest result.
What run time do I need for full points?
The built-in max-points times for the 1.5-mile run start at about 9:12 for men under 25 and about 10:23 for women under 25, getting slower with each age group. The targets table shows the time needed for each points level in your group.
