Snowboard Size Calculator
Work out the snowboard length that suits your weight, height, riding style and ability, and check whether your boot size needs a regular, mid-wide or wide board so your toes and heels don't drag in turns.

How to use the Snowboard Size Calculator
- Choose units and enter your height and weight.
- Enter your boot size and pick the size system.
- Choose your riding style and ability.
- Read your length range and board width, then compare other styles in the table.
How the board length is calculated
- Weight length = 123 + 0.43 × weight in kg (about 154 cm for 72 kg).
- Height length = 0.88 × height (roughly chin height).
- Base length = 0.6 × weight length + 0.4 × height length. Riders under 40 kg are sized by height only (0.86 × height).
- Style: freestyle −4 cm, carving +2 cm, freeride / powder +4 cm. Ability: beginner −3 cm, advanced +2 cm.
- The range is the result ±3 cm.
Snowboard length chart by weight (all-mountain, intermediate, average height)
| Rider weight | Typical length |
|---|---|
| 45–55 kg (100–120 lb) | 138–150 cm |
| 55–65 kg (120–145 lb) | 144–155 cm |
| 65–75 kg (145–165 lb) | 150–159 cm |
| 75–85 kg (165–185 lb) | 154–163 cm |
| 85–95 kg (185–210 lb) | 158–167 cm |
| 95 kg+ (210 lb+) | 162 cm+ |
Board width and boot size
Your boots should overhang the edges by only a little. With typical stance angles, this calculator uses a waist width of about 253 mm for a 28 cm boot (US men's 10) plus 5.5 mm for every extra cm of boot length: US 10.5 (28.5 cm) needs about 256 mm (mid-wide), US 11 (29 cm) about 259 mm and US 12 (30 cm) about 264 mm, which is wide-board territory.
| Boot size (US men's) | Mondopoint | Board width |
|---|---|---|
| up to 10 | up to 28 cm | Regular |
| 10.5 | 28.5 cm | Mid-wide |
| 11 and up | 29 cm+ | Wide |
Small feet on a very wide board work but feel slower edge to edge, so don't go wider than you need.
Frequently asked questions
Is snowboard size based on height or weight?
Weight matters more because it decides how much you flex the board, but height is still a useful check. This calculator blends both: 60% from a weight-based length and 40% from about chin height (88% of your height).
What size snowboard should a beginner get?
Beginners are best on the shorter end of their range, a few cm below an intermediate size. A shorter board is easier to turn and control at low speed.
Should a park board be shorter?
Yes. Freestyle and park riders usually go about 3–5 cm shorter for lighter swing weight in spins and easier presses. Powder and freeride boards are often 3–5 cm longer for float and stability.
When do I need a wide snowboard?
As a rough rule, men's boot sizes around US 11 and up need a wide board, US 10.5–11 a mid-wide, and smaller feet a regular width. The goal is that your boots overhang the edges only slightly, so toes and heels don't drag when you carve.
How do I convert my boot size to Mondopoint?
Mondopoint is the foot length in cm. Approximate conversions: US men's + 18, US women's + 16.5, UK + 18.5, and EU ÷ 1.5 − 1. For example US men's 10 is about 28 cm.
What stance width should I start with?
Start at about shoulder width, roughly 30% of your height (about 53 cm or 21 inches for a 178 cm rider), then adjust until it feels balanced. Most boards have reference stance inserts near this width.
Is this snowboard size chart exact?
No. It is a starting point. Each brand's size chart uses its own rider weight ranges, and camber, rocker and flex change how a board rides, so check the manufacturer's recommended weight range before buying.
