How the holiday dates are calculated

Most holidays follow a rule rather than a fixed date, so the calendar works them out for every year you choose. "Third Monday" means the Monday that falls between the 15th and 21st; "last Monday" is the final Monday of the month.

Weekend rules. US federal holidays on a Saturday are observed on the Friday before, and on a Sunday the Monday after. In 2027, Independence Day (Sunday) is observed on Monday July 5, Christmas (Saturday) on Friday December 24, and New Year's Day 2028 (Saturday) on Friday December 31, 2027. UK bank holidays that fall on a weekend get a substitute weekday, usually the following Monday; in 2027 Christmas Day and Boxing Day fall on Saturday and Sunday, so the bank holidays are Monday 27 and Tuesday 28 December.

    Easter dates

Easter Sunday is the first Sunday after the ecclesiastical full moon on or after March 21, so it falls between March 22 and April 25. The calendar uses the standard Gregorian computus to find it.

    Calendar facts worth knowing

    • Leap years: a year is a leap year if it divides by 4, except century years, which must divide by 400. 2028 is a leap year (February has 29 days); 2100 will not be.
    • Same layout years: 2027 starts on a Friday and is not a leap year, so it uses exactly the same calendar as 2021 and 2010.
    • Week numbers: ISO 8601 week 1 is the week containing the first Thursday of the year (equivalently, the week with January 4). Years have 52 weeks, or 53 when they start on a Thursday (or on a Wednesday in a leap year), as 2026 does.
    • Paper sizes: A4 is 297 × 210 mm (used almost everywhere), US Letter is 279.4 × 215.9 mm (8.5 × 11 in, used in the US and Canada). Downloads are rendered at 200 dpi, so an A4 landscape page is 2339 × 1654 pixels.

    Frequently asked questions

    Which holidays are included?

The US set has the 11 federal holidays, plus the weekday they are observed on when they fall on a weekend; the observances set adds days such as Easter, Mother's Day and Halloween. The UK set has the 8 bank holidays of England and Wales with substitute days. One-off holidays announced for special events are not included, so add them as custom dates.

    How is Easter worked out?

Easter Sunday is calculated with the standard Gregorian computus (the algorithm used by the Western churches). Good Friday is two days before and Easter Monday the day after, so they move automatically for every year.

What week numbers does the calendar use?

ISO 8601 week numbers, used across Europe and in most business software. Week 1 is the week with the year's first Thursday, and weeks run Monday to Sunday. When your calendar starts on Sunday, each row shows the week number of the Monday in that row.

How do I print the calendar so it fits the page?

Choose the same paper size and orientation as your printer, press Print and keep the scale at 100% or Fit to page. Margins are already built into the design. For the best result, download the PDF and print that.

    Can I make a school-year or financial-year calendar?

Yes. Pick the full-year or 12-page layout and set the start month, for example September 2026, to get September 2026 to August 2027.

Why did I get a PNG instead of a PDF?

The PDF is made with a small library that loads when you first need it. If it cannot load, for example when you are offline, the calendar is saved as a PNG image instead, which prints just as well.

    Are my custom dates saved?

Your settings and custom dates are stored only in this browser, so they are still there next time. Nothing is uploaded.
