One PDF point is 1/72 inch, so the pixel size at a given resolution is simply inches × dpi. At 300 dpi a printed flyer looks sharp even when read up close.
Five rules for a flyer people actually read
- One main message. Passers-by give a flyer two or three seconds. The headline (“Yard Sale”, “50% Off”, “Lost Dog”) should be readable from a few metres away, which usually means at least 60–80 pt type on a Letter or A4 sheet.
- Answer what, when and where. Date, time and place come right after the headline, in bold.
- Use strong contrast. Dark text on a light background or white text on a dark one. Avoid putting text over busy parts of a photo; add a semi-transparent rectangle behind it instead.
- Limit fonts and colours. Two fonts and two or three colours look deliberate; more looks messy.
- Add a clear next step. A phone number, website, QR code or “Free entry” tells people what to do.
Tips for lost pet and yard sale flyers
For a lost pet, use a large, clear, recent photo, the animal’s name, breed, colour and any distinctive markings, where and when it was last seen, and a phone number in large type. Print on brightly coloured paper or put the flyer in a clear sleeve so rain does not ruin it. For a yard sale, the date, start time and address matter most; listing a few popular items (furniture, toys, tools) attracts more visitors than a generic “lots of stuff”. Check local rules before putting flyers on lamp posts, as some towns do not allow it.
Printing at home
Print the PDF at “Actual size” or 100%. Because the design runs to the edge of the page and most home printers cannot print the last 3–5 mm, keep important text away from the edges. For edge-to-edge printing, ask a print shop and mention that your file has no bleed.
Frequently asked questions
Is this flyer maker free to use?
Yes. All templates, sizes and PNG and PDF downloads are free with no sign-up and no watermark on your flyer.
What size should a printed flyer be?
In the US and Canada flyers are usually US Letter (8.5 × 11 in) or Half Letter (5.5 × 8.5 in). In most other countries they are A4 (210 × 297 mm) or the smaller A5 (148 × 210 mm). The PDF download uses the exact page size of the format you choose.
What resolution is the PNG?
For print sizes you can choose 300 dpi (print quality), 150 dpi or 96 dpi. A US Letter flyer at 300 dpi is 2550 × 3300 pixels. Social media sizes are exported at their native size, such as 1080 × 1080 px, or at twice that size.
Can I use my own photos and logo?
Yes. Use + Image to add a photo or logo, or double-click a photo placeholder in a template to fill it. Images are cropped to fill their frame and can be resized and moved freely. Nothing is uploaded.
How do I print the flyer?
Download the PDF and print it at Actual size or 100% scale. Designs reach the edge of the page, so most home printers will leave a thin white margin; for full-bleed results use a print shop.
Is my design saved?
The design stays in this browser tab while you work, and Undo/Redo keeps your history. Download a PNG or PDF before closing the page, because designs are not stored on any server.
