Bookmark Maker
Design your own printable bookmarks with a photo, a favourite quote or a pattern, plus a matching back side. Several bookmarks are laid out per sheet with cut lines, and the two-sided PDF lines the backs up for duplex printing.

How to use the Bookmark Maker
- Pick a size: 2 x 6 in is the most common bookmark size.
- Design the front: choose a background (colour, gradient, pattern or photo), then add a title, quote and author. Drag the preview to move a photo.
- Design the back: switch to the Back tab, or untick Print a back side for single-sided bookmarks.
- Check the sheet: choose Letter or A4 and cut lines or crop marks; the preview shows how many fit.
- Download PDF and print at 100% with two-sided printing set to flip on the long edge (or the edge you chose), then cut them out.
Common bookmark sizes
Counts use 0.3 in page margins and 0.15 in gaps (cut lines). Bookmarks are turned sideways automatically when that fits more on the sheet.
| Size | Metric | Per Letter sheet | Per A4 sheet | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2 × 6 in | 51 × 152 mm | 4 | 5 | The standard printed bookmark |
| 2 × 7 in | 51 × 178 mm | 4 | 5 | A little longer for hardbacks |
| 2 × 8 in | 51 × 203 mm | 4 | 5 | Sticks out of tall books |
| 1.5 × 6 in | 38 × 152 mm | 6 | 6 | Slim, good for paperbacks |
| 2.5 × 7 in | 64 × 178 mm | 3 | 4 | Room for photos and longer quotes |
| 50 × 150 mm | 2 × 5.9 in | 4 | 5 | Common metric size |
Printing double-sided bookmarks
- Print a test on plain paper first. Print both PDF pages two-sided, then hold the sheet up to a light to check the backs line up with the fronts.
- Match the flip setting. If the backs come out upside down, switch the tool between Long edge and Short edge, or change the same setting in your print dialog.
- Use 100% scale. Turn off Fit to page so the bookmarks keep their exact size.
- Choose the right stock. 80-110 lb cover (216-300 gsm) cardstock works in most home printers; select heavy paper in the printer settings.
- Finish them. Cut along the front-side lines with a trimmer or craft knife, punch the tassel hole, and add ribbon, cord or a tassel. Laminating before cutting makes them last for years.
Frequently asked questions
What is the standard bookmark size?
The most common printed bookmark is 2 x 6 inches (about 5 x 15 cm). 2 x 7 and 2 x 8 inches are also popular, and slim 1.5 x 6 inch bookmarks suit paperbacks. In metric countries 50 x 150 mm and 60 x 200 mm are common.
How do I print double-sided bookmarks so the backs line up?
Download the PDF: page 1 holds the fronts and page 2 the backs, already mirrored. Print both pages on one sheet with two-sided printing set to flip on the long edge (or short edge if you chose that option), at 100% scale. Printers can shift the back by a millimetre or two, so print one test sheet on plain paper and hold it to the light.
How many bookmarks fit on one page?
With 0.3 in margins and 0.15 in gaps, a Letter page fits 4 bookmarks of 2 x 6 in (turned sideways) and an A4 page 5. Slimmer or shorter sizes fit more; the sheet preview shows the exact count.
What paper should I use?
Cardstock of 80-110 lb cover (about 216-300 gsm) is stiff enough for a bookmark. For extra durability, laminate the printed bookmarks before cutting, then punch the tassel hole.
Can I use my own photo?
Yes. Choose Photo as the background, pick an image and drag the preview to position it. Use the Darken slider so white text stays readable on a bright photo. The photo is processed only in your browser.
Can I use the quotes for bookmarks I sell?
Short quotations are widely used on bookmarks, but rules differ by country and some modern quotes are protected. The presets favour older public-domain authors; check the rights yourself before selling designs with modern quotes.
