Instagram Feed Planner
See how your next posts will look on your profile before you publish them. Add photos, drag them into the order you like, check the 4:5, 3:4 or square grid crop, and keep the plan saved privately in this browser.

How to use the Instagram Feed Planner
- Add photos: drop them on the box, paste with Ctrl+V or click Choose photos. New photos go to the top of the grid like a new post would.
- Pick the grid crop: 4:5 shows the full portrait post, 3:4 matches the current profile grid thumbnail, 1:1 the classic square grid.
- Rearrange: drag tiles to a new spot (long-press first on a phone), or select a tile and use the arrow keys or the Move buttons.
- Fine-tune: select a tile to move its crop position, add a caption note, a planned date or swap the photo.
- Keep it: the plan saves automatically in this browser. Download the grid PNG to share it, or the ZIP to get the photos numbered in posting order.
Instagram post and grid sizes
Feed posts can be square, portrait or landscape, but the profile grid crops every post to the same thumbnail shape. Plan with the crop that matches how people will see your profile.
| Format | Aspect ratio | Recommended size | How it looks on the grid |
|---|---|---|---|
| Portrait post | 4:5 | 1080 × 1350 px | Thin strips trimmed top and bottom on the 3:4 grid |
| Profile grid thumbnail (since 2025) | 3:4 | 1080 × 1440 px shows in full | Exactly what the grid displays |
| Square post | 1:1 | 1080 × 1080 px | Sides cropped on the 3:4 grid |
| Landscape post | 1.91:1 | 1080 × 566 px | Heavily cropped to the centre |
Use the crop position sliders on a selected tile to check what stays visible, and keep faces and text away from the edges of portrait and landscape shots.
Tips for a feed that looks planned
- Think in rows of three. Every new post shifts the whole grid by one tile, so a row only stays together if you post in multiples of three, or design a pattern that still works when it shifts.
- Alternate busy and calm images. A checkerboard of close-ups and plain or text posts keeps the grid easy to scan.
- Stick to a small palette. Two or three recurring colours or one consistent edit make the grid read as one brand.
- Use placeholders. Block out quote cards, announcements or reels you have not made yet so you can see the gaps in your content plan.
- Post bottom-up. Turn on posting order: tile 1 goes out first and the top-left tile last.
Frequently asked questions
Does this tool post to Instagram or need my login?
No. It is a planning preview only. It never connects to Instagram, needs no password and does not upload your photos anywhere. You publish the posts yourself in the app.
Which grid crop should I choose?
Instagram's recommended feed size is 1080 x 1350 px (4:5). Since early 2025 the profile grid shows taller 3:4 thumbnails instead of squares, so a 4:5 post loses a thin strip at the top and bottom on the grid. Use 3:4 to see the profile grid exactly, 4:5 to see the whole post, and 1:1 if you design for the older square look.
In what order should I post the photos?
The newest post appears at the top left of your grid, so you publish the bottom tile first and the top-left tile last. Turn on Show posting order to number the tiles 1, 2, 3 in the sequence you should upload them; the ZIP download uses the same numbers.
Where is my plan saved?
In your browser's IndexedDB storage on this device, photos included. It stays there after you close the tab, but it is not synced to other devices and is removed if you clear site data. Download the ZIP or grid image to keep a copy.
Why do new photos go to the top?
That is where a new post appears on a real profile. If you are rebuilding an existing feed instead, switch Add new photos to Bottom so they keep the order you select them in.
How many photos can I plan?
There is no fixed limit. Dozens of photos work smoothly; very large numbers depend on your device's memory and browser storage quota. Thumbnails are scaled down for the preview while the ZIP keeps your original files.
