Turn iPhone and iPad HEIC photos into lossless PNG images that open everywhere. Add one photo or a whole batch, optionally resize, and download each PNG or all of them in a ZIP. Your photos are converted on your own device and never uploaded.
Smaller sizes make much lighter PNG files.
Options
For bursts or HEIC files that hold several pictures.
Add your HEIC photos by dropping them into the box or clicking to choose files from your phone or computer.
Pick a size if you want smaller images, or keep the original resolution.
Press Convert to PNG. The first conversion downloads the HEIC decoder once, then every photo is converted in your browser.
Check the previews, dimensions and file sizes.
Download each PNG or click Download all as ZIP.

Why iPhones save HEIC and how to get PNG files
Since iOS 11, the iPhone camera saves photos in the High Efficiency Image File Format (HEIF) with the .heic extension. It stores the same picture in roughly half the space of a JPG, which saves a lot of storage, but many websites, Windows programs and older Android phones still cannot open it.
Converting to PNG gives you a file that opens everywhere and will not lose any further quality when you edit and save it again. The trade-off is file size: PNG keeps every pixel exactly, so expect files several times larger than the HEIC original. Use the size option above to scale large photos down, or use HEIC to JPG when you need small files for sharing.
Tips
To stop your iPhone from creating HEIC files, open Settings, Camera, Formats and choose Most Compatible. New photos are then saved as JPG.
When you email photos or AirDrop them to a Mac, iOS often converts them automatically. Files copied over USB or from iCloud for Windows usually stay HEIC.
The PNG files contain only the image. Location, camera and date information (EXIF) is not copied, which is useful when you share photos publicly.
Need another format such as WEBP or ICO? The Image Converter also reads HEIC files.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert HEIC to PNG for free?
Drop your HEIC or HEIF files into the converter above and press Convert to PNG. Each photo is decoded and saved as a PNG that you can download on its own or together in a ZIP file. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no file limit beyond your device's memory.
Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
No. The HEIC decoder runs inside your browser, so your photos are converted on your own device and never sent to a server. Only the decoder program itself is downloaded the first time you use the tool.
Does HEIC to PNG keep transparency?
Yes. Unlike converting to JPG, this tool never fills the background with a color, and PNG stores a full alpha channel, so any transparent pixels the decoder provides stay transparent. Ordinary iPhone photos are fully opaque, so they look exactly like the original.
Why are the PNG files so much bigger than the HEIC files?
HEIC uses very efficient lossy compression based on the HEVC video codec, while PNG is lossless and stores every pixel exactly. A 2 MB iPhone photo often becomes a PNG of 10 to 20 MB. If you need small files for sharing, use HEIC to JPG instead, or pick a smaller size with the resize option.
Should I choose PNG or JPG for my HEIC photos?
Choose PNG when you want maximum quality for editing, printing or archiving, or when the image has transparency or sharp text and graphics. Choose JPG when you want small files for email, social media or websites. Photos look the same either way at normal viewing sizes.
What is a multi-image HEIC file?
A single HEIC file can hold several images, for example burst shots or edited and original versions. By default the converter saves the main image. Tick Export every image in multi-image files to get one PNG for each image stored inside.
Why does a HEIC file fail to convert?
The file may be damaged, only partly downloaded, or use a HEIF variant the decoder does not support, such as some 10-bit or image sequence files. Try exporting the photo again from your phone, or set the iPhone camera format to Most Compatible to shoot JPG in the future.
