PSD to PNG
Open Photoshop PSD and PSB files without Photoshop and save them as PNG images with transparency intact. Download the flattened picture, or turn on layer export to get every layer as its own PNG. Files are read in your browser and never uploaded.

How to use the PSD to PNG
- Add your PSD files by dropping them into the box or clicking Choose PSD files. PSB files work too.
- Wait a moment while the file is read on your device. A preview of the flattened image appears on the card.
- Turn on Export layers if you want each layer as its own PNG, and choose trimmed or full-canvas layers.
- Download the PNG from the card, click a layer thumbnail to save that layer, or use Download all as ZIP.
What is inside a PSD file?
A Photoshop document is a sequence of five sections: a 26-byte header (signature 8BPS, size, channel count, bit depth and color mode), color mode data (for example the palette of an indexed image), image resources (resolution, guides, thumbnail and more), layer and mask information (every layer's bounds, blend mode, opacity, name and pixel channels), and finally the image data: a flattened copy of the whole picture. This converter reads the flattened copy for the main PNG and the layer section for layer export.
The flattened copy is only complete when Photoshop's Maximize PSD and PSB File Compatibility preference is on, which is the default. When it is off, the tool detects the empty composite and rebuilds the image from the visible layers instead.
Supported Photoshop features
| Feature | Flattened PNG | Layer export |
|---|---|---|
| RGB and grayscale, 8 and 16 bits | Yes | Yes |
| CMYK, indexed, duotone, bitmap | Yes (converted to RGB) | Yes for CMYK and grayscale |
| Transparency | Yes | Yes |
| Groups and hidden layers | As saved by Photoshop | Yes, names include the group |
| Text, shape and smart object layers | As saved by Photoshop | Exported as their rendered pixels |
| Layer effects, masks, adjustment layers | As saved by Photoshop | Not applied to individual layers |
Tips
- If text or effects look wrong, open the file in Photoshop, enable Maximize Compatibility and save again, so the exact composite is stored in the file.
- Need a smaller file for the web? Convert the PNG with PNG to JPG or shrink it in the Image Compressor.
- Working with scans or print files instead? Try TIFF to JPG.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert PSD to PNG without Photoshop?
Drop the PSD file into the converter above. It reads the Photoshop file directly in your browser, shows the flattened image and lets you download it as a PNG. There is nothing to install, no account and no watermark.
Does the PNG keep transparency?
Yes. PNG supports a full alpha channel, so transparent areas of the Photoshop document stay transparent. The preview shows them over a checkerboard. Exported layers keep their own transparency too.
Can I export each layer as a separate PNG?
Yes. Tick Export layers and every pixel layer is saved as its own PNG, named with its position and layer name. Choose Trimmed to get each layer cropped to its content, or Full canvas to keep every layer at the document size and in its original position, which is handy for animation and web work.
Why does my PNG look different from Photoshop?
The flattened PNG uses the composite image Photoshop stores inside the file, so it normally matches exactly. If the file was saved with Maximize Compatibility turned off, there is no stored composite and the tool rebuilds the image from the layers. That rebuild supports normal blending, opacity and common blend modes, but not layer effects, adjustment layers or masks, so some designs can look slightly different.
Are my PSD files uploaded to a server?
No. The file is parsed by JavaScript on your own device. Nothing is sent anywhere, so confidential designs stay private. For unusual files the open-source ag-psd library is downloaded once to help read them.
What is the difference between PSD and PSB?
PSB is Photoshop's Large Document Format for images over 30,000 pixels on a side or files over 2 GB. The structure is almost the same as PSD and this converter reads both, as long as the image fits in your browser's memory.
Is there a file size limit?
There is no fixed limit, but very large documents with many layers need a lot of memory. Files up to a few hundred megabytes usually work on a desktop computer; phones may struggle with big files.
