TIFF to JPG
Convert TIFF and TIF files from scanners, cameras and fax software into JPG images that open everywhere. Multi-page TIFFs are split into one JPG per page, and you can pick which pages to keep. Files are decoded in your browser and never uploaded.

How to use the TIFF to JPG
- Add your TIFF files by dropping them into the box or clicking Choose TIFF files.
- Choose the pages for multi-page files: all pages, only the first, or a custom list such as 1-3, 5.
- Set the JPG quality and, if you like, a smaller output size. Every page re-converts instantly.
- Check the previews, page numbers and file sizes on each card.
- Download single pages or press Download all as ZIP.
TIFF compression types explained
| Compression | Code | Type | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|
| None | 1 | Uncompressed | Raw scans, camera exports, scientific images |
| CCITT Group 3 / Group 4 | 2, 3, 4 | Lossless, black and white only | Fax documents and 1-bit office scans |
| LZW | 5 | Lossless | Default in many scanners, Photoshop and Windows |
| JPEG | 7 | Lossy | Color scans and large photos inside a TIFF |
| Deflate (ZIP) | 8, 32946 | Lossless | Photoshop, GIS and print workflows |
| PackBits | 32773 | Lossless run-length | Older Mac software and simple graphics |
Why convert TIFF to JPG?
TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) is a flexible container built for quality: it can hold many pages, 16-bit color, CMYK, layers of metadata and lossless compression. That makes it great for archiving and printing, but awkward for everyday use. Most browsers cannot display TIFF, many websites and email clients reject it, and an uncompressed A4 color scan at 300 DPI (2480 × 3508 pixels) is about 26 MB.
The same page saved as a quality 90 JPG is usually 0.5 to 2 MB and opens on any phone or computer. The rule of thumb for an uncompressed TIFF is size ≈ width × height × bytes per pixel (3 for 8-bit RGB, 1 for grayscale, 1/8 for black and white), which is why the savings are so large.
Tips
- Scanned documents with mostly text stay sharp at quality 85 to 95. For text-only pages, a grayscale or black and white scan gives the smallest files.
- Want a single document instead of many images? Convert the JPGs with Image to PDF.
- Have bitmaps or Photoshop files too? Try BMP to JPG and PSD to PNG.
- Use the 50% size option for previews and email: it cuts the pixel count by four and the file size by about the same.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert a TIFF to JPG for free?
Drop the TIFF or TIF file into the converter above. Each page is decoded in your browser and saved as a JPG at the quality you choose, and you can download the images one by one or all together in a ZIP. There is no sign-up and no watermark.
How do I convert a multi-page TIFF to JPG?
Just add the file. The converter reads every page stored in it and creates one JPG per page, named like scan-p1.jpg, scan-p2.jpg and so on. Use the Pages option to keep only the first page or a custom list such as 1-3, 6.
Which TIFF compressions are supported?
Uncompressed, LZW, PackBits and Deflate (ZIP) TIFFs are decoded by the built-in decoder with no download. JPEG-compressed TIFFs and CCITT Group 3 and Group 4 fax images are decoded with the open-source UTIF.js library, which is loaded the first time it is needed.
Will I lose quality converting TIFF to JPG?
JPG is lossy, so a little detail is removed, but at quality 90 or higher the difference is very hard to see in photos and scans. TIFF is often uncompressed, so the JPG is typically 5 to 20 times smaller. Keep the TIFF as your archive copy if you need a perfect master.
What happens to transparency and 16-bit color?
JPG has no transparency and only 8 bits per channel. Transparent areas are filled with the background color you pick, white by default, and 16-bit images are reduced to 8 bits per channel, which is what screens display anyway.
Are my TIFF files uploaded?
No. The files are read and converted by JavaScript running on your own device. Nothing is sent to a server, which makes the tool safe for scanned contracts, IDs and other private documents.
Why does my TIFF fail to convert?
The file may be damaged or use a rare variant such as BigTIFF, floating-point samples or old-style JPEG compression. The card shows the reason. Re-saving the file from the scanner or an image editor as a standard TIFF usually fixes it.
