Point your camera at small print, a splinter or a serial number and zoom in up to 10×. Freeze the picture to read it comfortably, switch on the phone's light, and use high-contrast, inverted or yellow-on-black colors when plain zoom is not enough.

How to use the Online Magnifier
Press Start magnifier and allow camera access. Phones use the back camera.
Zoom in with the slider, the + and − buttons, a preset or a two-finger pinch on the picture.
Hold steady and press Freeze frame to read the image without shake; drag to move around the frozen picture.
Turn the light on or pick a color mode such as High contrast or Yellow on black if text is still hard to read.
Download a snapshot to keep what you magnified, such as a serial number or a label.
How much zoom do you need?
Print size is measured in points (1 pt = 1/72 inch ≈ 0.35 mm). Most adults read comfortably at about 10–12 pt from 40 cm away. To bring small print up to that size, divide the comfortable size by the print size: 12 pt ÷ 6 pt = 2× magnification.

Digital zoom vs. camera zoom
Digital zoom crops the centre of the picture and scales it up: at 4× you see a quarter of the width and height, so a 1920×1080 camera shows 480×270 real pixels stretched to fill the view. Text stays readable as long as each letter still covers several real pixels. Some phones (mostly Android in Chrome) also let web pages control the camera's own zoom, which crops on the full-resolution sensor or switches to a telephoto lens. When that is available the magnifier uses it first and only adds digital zoom on top, which keeps fine detail sharper.
Tips for a clear, steady picture
Light first. In dim rooms the camera raises its gain and the image becomes grainy. Turn on the phone light or move next to a window.
Distance second. Hold the phone 10–20 cm away so the camera can focus, then zoom in, rather than pressing the lens close to the page.
Rest your elbows on a table or brace the phone against a glass to cut shake, then press Freeze frame (or the space bar).
Glossy labels reflect the light; tilt the object slightly so the glare moves off the text.
Reading modes: Invert and Yellow on black reduce glare for many low-vision readers; High contrast darkens faint print on receipts.
This tool is a convenience aid and not a medical or certified low-vision device. If you regularly struggle to read print, an eye care professional can recommend proper magnifiers or glasses.
Frequently asked questions
Is digital zoom as good as a real magnifying glass?
Not quite. Digital zoom enlarges the pixels the camera already captured, so detail gets softer above about 4× on a laptop webcam. Phone cameras capture more pixels and many expose their own zoom to the browser, which this tool uses first for a sharper result. Good light and holding the phone 10 to 20 cm from the object help most.
Why can't I turn on the light?
Browsers can only switch on a camera light that the device lets them control. That mainly works with the back camera in Chrome on Android. iPhones and laptops do not expose the light to web pages, so the button stays disabled there. As an alternative, use a lamp or another phone's flashlight.
Why is the picture blurry when I hold it close?
Every camera has a minimum focus distance. Most phone main cameras cannot focus closer than about 7 to 10 cm. Move the phone back a little and use more zoom instead; the result will be sharper.
Which color mode is best for reading?
Many people with low vision find light text on a dark background less glaring, so try Invert or Yellow on black. High contrast turns faint gray print darker. Combine a mode with the contrast and brightness sliders until the letters look solid.
Does the magnifier record or upload my video?
No. The camera picture is processed in your browser only. Snapshots are created on your device and saved only when you press Download snapshot.
Can I use it on a computer without a camera?
Yes. Press Open a photo to load any picture, for example a scan or a photo of a document, and zoom into it with the same controls and color modes.
