How to use the Wedding Monogram Maker
- Pick a template: circle, crest, wreath, classic, modern frame or arch. The thumbnails update with your own initials.
- Enter your initials. For a three-letter monogram, put the shared last-name initial in the middle; or switch to two letters with an ampersand or a single letter.
- Add your names and date and choose a date style such as June 20, 2026 or VI · XX · MMXXVI, or turn the date off.
- Choose fonts and colors: a script or serif font for the initials, a font for the names, then a palette or your own colors. Adjust the initials size and spacing with the sliders.
- Download a PNG for printing and sharing, or an SVG to scale it for signs, stamps and cutting machines.
Monogram styles explained
| Style | Example | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Three-letter couple monogram | a M j (shared last name larger in the center) | Couples sharing a last name after the wedding: napkins, towels, stationery |
| Two-letter with ampersand | A & J | Save-the-dates, invitations, couples keeping their own names |
| Single letter | M | Wax seals, cake toppers, dance floor decals, return address stamps |
| Monogram with date | A M J + 06 · 20 · 2026 | Welcome signs, programs, favors, thank-you cards |
Where to use your wedding monogram
- Stationery: save-the-dates, invitations, envelopes, menus, programs and thank-you cards. Use the same monogram everywhere to tie the suite together.
- Signs: welcome boards, seating charts and bar signs. Download the SVG, or a 3600 px PNG for poster sizes.
- Details: napkins, coasters, cups, favor tags, cookie and cake toppers, and a custom gobo light pattern for the dance floor.
- Online: your wedding website header and social posts (600 or 1200 px is plenty).
Design tips
- Pair one script with one serif. A flowing script for the initials and a clean serif or sans-serif in capitals for the names is easy to read and looks balanced.
- Match your palette to the invitation colors. Gold or deep green on ivory reads well in print; white on navy suits evening weddings.
- Check thin strokes before printing small. Very fine script lines can disappear on napkins or stamps; use a bolder font or a larger size for small items.
- Print a test at actual size on plain paper before ordering or cutting final materials.
- Pair it with matching place cards and a wedding invitation in the same fonts and colors.
Frequently asked questions
What is the traditional order of letters in a wedding monogram?
A traditional three-letter couple's monogram puts the shared last-name initial in the center, larger than the others, with one partner's first initial on the left and the other's on the right. Historically the bride's initial went on the left, but many couples today simply choose the order they like. Couples keeping different last names often use a two-letter monogram such as A & J.
Can I use the monogram before the wedding?
Yes. Many couples use a monogram with their shared last-name initial on save-the-dates and invitations, but etiquette traditionally reserves the married-name monogram for use after the wedding. A two-letter monogram with both first initials, or one with the wedding date, works well before the big day.
What size PNG should I download?
2400 × 2400 px prints sharply at 8 × 8 inches at 300 dpi, which covers invitations, programs and most signs. Use 3600 px for larger prints, or the SVG, which scales to any size without losing quality. 600 px is enough for websites and social media.
Can I use the SVG with a cutting machine or for embroidery?
The SVG works in design apps and many cutting machine programs. Text in an SVG is still live text, so convert it to outlines or shapes in your design software before cutting, and check that thin script strokes are thick enough for your material. Embroidery usually needs digitizing by the embroidery software.
How do I get a transparent background?
Tick Transparent before downloading the PNG. The background color is removed so the monogram can sit on colored card stock, photos or fabric transfers. SVG files are transparent too when this option is on.
Are the fonts free to use for my wedding?
Yes. The fonts come from Google Fonts and are released under open licenses (mostly the SIL Open Font License), which allow personal and commercial use in printed items and images.
Is anything uploaded?
No. The monogram is drawn in your browser. Only the font files are downloaded from Google Fonts so the preview and export look right; your names and date are not sent anywhere except as the list of letters needed for the font subset.
