How to use the PPP Salary Converter
Enter your salary in your current country's currency and choose the pay period.
Pick your current and target countries, or choose Custom to type the latest PPP factor yourself.
Optionally add today's exchange rate to compare the PPP result with a plain currency conversion.
Press Convert salary to see the equivalent salary, the PPP rate and the steps.
Scroll the table to see the same salary in every country, or download it as CSV.
PPP salary formula
International dollars = salary ÷ PPP factor of your current country
Equivalent salary = international dollars × PPP factor of the target country
Price level = PPP exchange rate ÷ market exchange rate (below 1 means the target country is cheaper)
Example: a US salary of $100,000 is Int$100,000. In Spain (factor ≈ 0.61) the same purchasing power is about €61,000. If the market rate were 0.92 euros per dollar, a plain conversion would give €92,000, so Spain's price level is roughly 0.61 ÷ 0.92 ≈ 66% of the US level.

Tips for comparing salaries abroad
Adjust for the city. National PPP averages hide big differences: London, Paris, Sydney or Mumbai cost more than the country average.
Compare after tax. Two equal PPP salaries can leave very different take-home pay once income tax, social security and health insurance are deducted.
Count benefits. Paid leave, public healthcare, pensions, childcare and housing allowances change the real value of an offer.
Think about savings goals. If you plan to send money home or repay debt in another currency, the market exchange rate matters more than PPP for that part of your income.
Frequently asked questions
What is a PPP salary?
A PPP (purchasing power parity) salary is the amount you would need in another country to buy the same goods and services your current salary buys at home. It uses price levels rather than market exchange rates, so it reflects what money is actually worth locally.
How is the equivalent salary calculated?
Divide your salary by your country's PPP factor to get international dollars, then multiply by the target country's PPP factor. For example, $60,000 in the US (factor 1.00) is Int$60,000, which is about €44,400 in Germany at a factor of 0.74.
Why is the PPP result different from converting at the exchange rate?
Market exchange rates are driven by trade, capital flows and speculation, not by what a coffee or rent costs. In countries with lower prices, a PPP-equivalent salary is usually smaller than the plain currency conversion; in more expensive countries it is larger.
Where do the PPP factors come from?
They are approximate, rounded values of the 'PPP conversion factor, GDP (local currency per international dollar)' published by the World Bank's International Comparison Program and the IMF, around 2023. Factors are revised as new price surveys are released, so use the Custom option for the latest figure.
Is PPP the same as cost of living?
Not exactly. PPP measures the average price level of the whole economy, while personal cost of living depends on your city, housing, family, taxes and spending habits. Capital cities are often much more expensive than the national average, so treat the result as a starting point.
Does the converter include taxes?
No. It compares gross salaries using price levels only. Income tax, social contributions, healthcare and pension costs vary widely between countries, so compare take-home pay as well before accepting an offer.
What is an international dollar?
An international dollar (Int$) is a hypothetical unit with the same purchasing power that one US dollar has in the United States. It lets you compare incomes and prices across countries on a common footing.
