How to convert an hourly wage to a yearly salary
Annual salary = hourly rate × hours per week × weeks per year
A full-time year is usually 40 hours × 52 weeks = 2,080 hours. So the quick rule is: hourly rate × 2,080, or roughly double the hourly rate and add three zeros ($25/hr ≈ $50,000; exactly $52,000).
- Monthly = annual ÷ 12 (not weekly × 4, which misses about 4 extra weeks a year)
- Biweekly = annual ÷ 26 paychecks; semi-monthly = annual ÷ 24
- Overtime pay = overtime hours × hourly rate × multiplier (1.5 for time and a half)
Use fewer than 52 weeks if you take unpaid time off: for example, two unpaid weeks means 50 paid weeks. These are gross (pre-tax) figures; taxes and deductions reduce take-home pay.

Frequently asked questions
How do I convert hourly pay to an annual salary?
Multiply the hourly rate by hours per week and by weeks per year. For a standard full-time job that is rate × 40 × 52 = rate × 2,080. For example, $25 an hour is $52,000 a year.
How much is $20 an hour per year?
At 40 hours a week for 52 weeks, $20 an hour is $41,600 a year, about $3,467 a month, $1,600 every two weeks and $800 a week before taxes.
Why is monthly pay not weekly pay times 4?
A year has 52 weeks, which is about 4.33 weeks per month. Multiplying weekly pay by 4 leaves out roughly one month's pay over a year, so the calculator divides the annual total by 12.
What is the difference between biweekly and semi-monthly pay?
Biweekly means every two weeks, which gives 26 paychecks a year. Semi-monthly means twice a month, usually on fixed dates, which gives 24 paychecks. Each semi-monthly check is a bit larger.
How is overtime included?
Overtime pay is overtime hours × hourly rate × the multiplier, usually 1.5 (time and a half) for hours over 40 a week under the US Fair Labor Standards Act. Enter your typical weekly overtime hours.
Are these figures before or after tax?
Before tax (gross pay). Income tax, Social Security, Medicare and other deductions will reduce your take-home pay; use a paycheck calculator for net pay.
Is anything I type stored or sent?
No. The conversion runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded.
