How to use the Seamless Pattern Generator
Pick a pattern from the style grid: dots, stripes, waves, grid, zigzag, checks and more.
Choose colors for the pattern and the background, or tick Transparent to keep only the shapes.
Adjust Scale and Thickness until the preview looks right. For stripes, choose the direction.
Copy the CSS to use the pattern as a website background, or switch to SVG to copy the tile code.
Download the SVG tile, a full-size SVG or a PNG in the size you need for wallpapers, slides or print.
Using the CSS pattern
The CSS output embeds the tile as an SVG data URI, so the whole pattern is a few hundred characters of text. Paste it into any selector:
Layer it over a gradient: tick Transparent background, then list the pattern first and the gradient second, for example background-image: url("data:..."), linear-gradient(#fff, #e9f3ec);
Make it subtle: choose a pattern color only slightly darker than the background, or put the pattern on a pseudo-element with opacity: .15.
Keep text readable: on busy patterns, place text on a solid card or add a semi-transparent overlay.
Change the size later: edit only background-size; the SVG scales without blurring.

SVG or PNG?
An SVG tile is usually under 400 bytes and stays perfectly sharp at any zoom level, so it is the best choice for websites. Export a PNG when you need a fixed-size raster image, for example a desktop or phone wallpaper, a presentation background, a social media graphic or a file for printing. For print, choose a size of at least 300 pixels per inch of the final print (about 3000 px for a 10 inch wide print).
Frequently asked questions
What makes a pattern seamless?
A seamless pattern is built from a tile whose right edge continues exactly into its left edge and whose bottom edge continues into its top. Every pattern here is drawn so that shapes crossing a tile edge are completed on the opposite side, so the tile can repeat forever without visible seams.
How do I use the pattern as a CSS background?
Copy the CSS and paste it into the rule for your element, for example body or a hero section. The tile is embedded as an SVG data URI in background-image, so there is no separate image file to host, and background-size sets the tile size.
Should I use SVG or PNG?
Use SVG for websites and anything that scales: it is tiny and stays sharp on every screen. Use PNG for apps that do not accept SVG, such as some social media tools, office documents or print shops, and pick a size at least as large as the final use.
Can the background be transparent?
Yes. Tick Transparent background and the SVG, CSS and PNG contain only the pattern shapes, so you can layer them over a photo, gradient or another color.
How big is the CSS?
Most patterns produce a data URI of only 150 to 400 characters, far smaller than an image file, and the browser does not need an extra request to load it.
Can I use the patterns commercially?
Yes. The patterns are simple geometric shapes generated from your settings, so you can use them freely in personal and commercial projects.
