Video Speed Changer
Make a video faster or turn it into slow motion. Preview the new speed in the player, keep the sound with or without the original pitch and save the result as a new video file, without uploading anything.
The player above plays at the selected speed so you can preview it.

How to use the Video Speed Changer
- Choose a video by dropping it into the box or clicking to browse.
- Pick a speed: a preset like 0.5× or 2×, or any custom value with the slider. Play the video to preview it.
- Decide on the sound: keep the audio and tick Keep original pitch to avoid a chipmunk or deep voice.
- Optionally change the frame rate, resolution and quality.
- Press Change speed & export, wait while the video is recorded at the new speed, then press Download video.
Speed factor and new video length
Changing the speed divides the running time by the speed factor: new length = original length ÷ speed. A speed above 1 makes the video shorter and faster, a speed below 1 makes it longer and slower.
| Speed | Effect | A 60 s video becomes | A 10 min video becomes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0.25× | 4 times slower (strong slow motion) | 4:00 | 40:00 |
| 0.5× | Half speed | 2:00 | 20:00 |
| 0.75× | 25% slower | 1:20 | 13:20 |
| 1.25× | 25% faster | 0:48 | 8:00 |
| 1.5× | 50% faster | 0:40 | 6:40 |
| 2× | Double speed | 0:30 | 5:00 |
| 4× | Quadruple speed | 0:15 | 2:30 |
| 8× | Timelapse look (silent) | 0:07.5 | 1:15 |
To fit a clip into a fixed slot, work the speed out backwards: speed = original length ÷ target length. A 75-second clip that has to fit into 60 seconds needs 75 ÷ 60 = 1.25×.
Pitch: keep it or let it shift
When a recording is simply played faster, the sound waves are squeezed and every voice rises in pitch; at 2× it rises a full octave. With Keep original pitch ticked, the browser time-stretches the audio so voices keep their normal tone, which is what you want for tutorials, lectures and vlogs. Untick it for a playful chipmunk effect at high speeds or a slow, deep voice in slow motion.
How the export works
The tool plays your video in a hidden player at the chosen rate, draws every frame onto a canvas and records the canvas, together with the sound, using the browser's built-in MediaRecorder. Because the recording runs in real time, the export takes as long as the new video lasts, and the result is a fresh WebM file at the frame rate you pick. Choosing 30 fps for a 2× video keeps playback smooth while skipping every second original frame; choose 60 fps to keep more of them.
Frequently asked questions
How do I speed up a video?
Load the video, choose 1.5×, 2× or a custom speed and press Change speed & export. The browser plays the video at the new rate and records it into a new file, which you can then download.
How long does the export take?
Recording happens in real time at the new speed, so the export takes as long as the new video is. A 60-second clip at 2× takes about 30 seconds, while 0.5× slow motion takes about 2 minutes. Keep the tab open and visible during the export.
What format is the output?
The new video is saved as WebM (VP9 or VP8 video with Opus audio), which plays in Chrome, Firefox, Edge, VLC and most editors and can be uploaded to YouTube and most social networks. Safari versions that can't record WebM get an MP4 file instead.
Why is there no sound at very slow or very fast speeds?
Browsers only play audio between 0.25× and 4× speed and mute it outside that range, so exports at 0.1× or 8× are silent. Between those limits the audio is kept, either with the original pitch or with the pitch shifted along with the speed.
Is slow motion smooth?
Slowing down repeats the existing frames; it doesn't invent new in-between frames. Footage shot at 60 fps or more looks smooth at 0.5×, while 30 fps footage slowed to 0.25× looks choppy. Real slow-motion video from a phone's slo-mo mode gives the best results.
Does the quality change?
The video is re-encoded, so there is a small quality loss. Pick High or Very high quality and Original resolution to keep it close to the source, or a lower setting for a smaller file.
Is my video uploaded?
No. The video is opened, played and recorded in your own browser with the canvas and MediaRecorder APIs. Nothing is sent to a server.
