Turn QuickTime MOV videos from an iPhone, camera or Mac into MP4 files that upload and play everywhere. Most MOV files are converted in seconds without re-encoding, so the quality and size stay exactly the same, and the video never leaves your device.

How to use the MOV to MP4
Choose your MOV video: drop it on the box or click Choose MOV file. iPhone videos can be picked straight from Photos on the phone.
Check the method: Quick, no quality loss is selected automatically when the codecs can be copied into MP4.
Need a smaller or more compatible file? Pick Re-encode to H.264 and choose resolution, frame rate and quality.
Press Convert to MP4. The quick method finishes in seconds; re-encoding takes as long as the video.
Preview the MP4 and press Download MP4.
Quick copy or re-encode: which method to use
Quick, no quality loss
Re-encode to H.264
Speed
Seconds, even for a 4 GB file
Real time (a 5-minute video takes about 5 minutes)
Use the quick method whenever it is available. Re-encode when you need a smaller file, a lower resolution, H.264 instead of HEVC for an older device or website, or when the MOV holds a codec that MP4 cannot store.
How the quick conversion works
MOV and MP4 share the same structure, inherited from Apple's QuickTime format: a header box (ftyp), the compressed audio and video samples (mdat) and an index (moov) that says where each sample is. The quick method:
writes a standard MP4 ftyp header (brands isom, iso2, avc1 or hvc1, mp41) instead of the QuickTime one,
copies the video and audio samples byte for byte,
rewrites QuickTime-only parts of the index: the sound description is converted to the MP4 layout, and timecode, metadata and other auxiliary tracks are removed,
updates the sample offsets in the index (stco/co64) so they point to the right place in the new file.
Because the samples are not decoded, nothing is lost and the job is limited only by how fast your device can save the file.
How do I convert MOV to MP4 without losing quality?
Choose your MOV file and keep the Quick, no quality loss method. The H.264 or HEVC video and the AAC audio are copied into an MP4 container unchanged, so the picture, sound and file size stay the same. It takes seconds even for long videos.
What is the difference between MOV and MP4?
Both are containers based on Apple's QuickTime file format, and they usually hold the same H.264 or HEVC video and AAC audio. MOV is Apple's format; MP4 is the international standard (ISO/IEC 14496-14) and is accepted by more websites, Windows apps, Android phones and TVs.
Can I convert iPhone videos (HEVC) to MP4?
Yes. iPhone videos recorded as High Efficiency are HEVC (H.265) in MOV. The quick method copies them into MP4 without quality loss; the result plays on iPhones, Macs, Android and most TVs. If a website or older PC needs H.264, choose Re-encode, which requires a browser that can play HEVC, such as Safari or Edge with HEVC support.
Why is the quick method not available for my file?
Some MOV files hold codecs that MP4 cannot store, such as Apple ProRes, DV or Motion JPEG video. Those need re-encoding, and browsers cannot decode ProRes, so export them as H.264 from your editing app. Files with uncompressed PCM audio can still be copied quickly, but the sound is dropped unless you re-encode.
Is my video uploaded?
No. Both methods run inside your browser. The quick method only rewrites the file's index, and re-encoding uses your browser's built-in video encoder, so the video never leaves your device.
Why does re-encoding take as long as the video?
Re-encoding plays the video in a hidden player and records each frame with the browser's MediaRecorder, which works in real time. Keep the tab visible while it runs. The quick method avoids this and is almost instant.
Does the MP4 keep the phone's location and date?
The recording date stored in the movie header is kept. Apple-specific metadata atoms, such as the location and device model tags, are not copied, which also removes the location from shared videos.
