Rotating by 90° or 270° swaps the width and height; 180° and the flips keep the size. Rotating 180° gives exactly the same picture as flipping both horizontally and vertically.

Why phone videos end up sideways

Phones record the sensor in one fixed direction and store a small rotation tag in the file that tells players how to turn it. Some players, editors, projectors and websites ignore that tag, so the video shows up sideways. This tool draws the frames in the corrected direction, so the new file plays the right way up everywhere, with no rotation tag needed.

Tips

  • Check the preview at several points with the seek bar, especially if the phone was turned during recording.
  • For a mirror-image selfie video, use Flip horizontal so writing reads correctly again.
  • To share on social media, Max 1080p and Standard or High quality keep the file small while looking sharp.

Frequently asked questions

How do I rotate a video that was filmed sideways?

Load the video and press 90° right or 90° left until the preview is upright, then press Rotate & export video. The width and height are swapped automatically, so a sideways landscape file becomes a proper portrait video.

What is the difference between rotating and flipping?

Rotating turns the picture around its center, like turning a TV on its side. Flipping mirrors it: a horizontal flip swaps left and right, which fixes mirrored selfie footage, and a vertical flip swaps top and bottom.

What format is the rotated video?

It is saved as WebM (VP9 or VP8 video with Opus audio). WebM plays in Chrome, Firefox, Edge and VLC and is accepted by YouTube and most editors. Browsers that can't record WebM, such as some Safari versions, save an MP4 instead.

Why does the export take as long as the video?

The browser plays the video in the background, draws each frame rotated onto a canvas and records it with MediaRecorder in real time. A 1-minute clip takes about a minute. Keep the tab visible while it runs.

Does rotating reduce quality?

The video is re-encoded, so there is a small loss. Keep Original resolution and choose Match original or High quality to keep it close to the source.

Is my video uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser with the canvas and MediaRecorder APIs, so your video stays on your device.
