Open a video, drag the crop box over the part you want to keep, or pick a preset like square 1:1, vertical 9:16 or widescreen 16:9. The cropped video keeps its sound and is created right in your browser, with no upload and no watermark.

How much of the picture you keep
When you crop a video to a different aspect ratio, the largest box that fits keeps the full height (or width) and trims the sides. For a source of ratio Rs cropped to ratio Rc, the share of the frame kept is Rc ÷ Rs when the crop is narrower, or Rs ÷ Rc when it is wider.

Turning a landscape 1080p video into a 9:16 vertical clip leaves a 608 × 1080 picture. Social apps upscale it to 1080 × 1920 on playback, so film in vertical or in 4K if you know you will need a vertical version.
Tips for clean crops
Play the preview to the busiest part of the video before exporting: a subject that moves may leave a fixed crop box.
Use the rule-of-thirds grid inside the box to place eyes or the horizon on a third line.
Crop width and height are rounded to even numbers, which video encoders require.
To remove black bars from a letterboxed video, choose Free and drag the top and bottom edges onto the picture.
Frequently asked questions
How do I crop a video for TikTok or Instagram Reels?
Choose the 9:16 preset. The tool places the tallest possible vertical box in the middle of the frame; drag it sideways to keep the subject in view and press Crop & export video. For square feed posts use 1:1, and 4:5 for portrait feed posts.
Does cropping lower the quality?
Cropping keeps the original pixels inside the box, but the video has to be re-encoded, which always loses a little detail. Choose High or Very high quality for the sharpest result. A small crop from a low-resolution video will look soft when it is played full screen.
Why does the export take as long as the video?
Browsers can only encode video in real time through the MediaRecorder API, so the video is played once while each cropped frame is drawn and recorded. A 1 minute clip takes about 1 minute. Keep the tab open and visible during export.
Is the audio kept?
Yes. With Keep audio switched on, the original soundtrack is recorded together with the cropped picture. Untick it to save a silent video.
Will I get MP4 or WebM?
Chrome, Edge and Safari can record MP4 with H.264 video, which plays almost everywhere. Firefox records WebM (VP8/VP9 with Opus audio), which plays in browsers, VLC and on YouTube. The Format list only shows what your browser supports.
Is my video uploaded?
No. The video is decoded, cropped and encoded on your own device. Nothing is sent to a server and there is no watermark.
