Stripe fee formulas
- Percentage rate = base card rate + international card fee (if any) + currency conversion fee (if any)
- Fee = charge × percentage rate + fixed fee
- Payout = charge − fee
- Charge to receive X = (X + fixed fee) ÷ (1 − percentage rate)
Example: to receive $250 with a domestic card at 2.9% + $0.30, charge (250 + 0.30) ÷ 0.971 = $257.78. The fee is $7.78.

Frequently asked questions
How much does Stripe charge per transaction?
Stripe's standard US price for online card payments is 2.9% + $0.30 per successful charge. A $100 charge costs $3.20, so you receive $96.80. Other countries and payment methods have different rates.
How do I pass Stripe fees on to the customer?
Charge (amount you want + $0.30) ÷ (1 − 0.029). To receive $100 you charge $103.30, and the fee of $3.30 leaves $100.00. Check local rules first, because card surcharging is restricted in some places.
What extra fees apply to international cards?
In the US, Stripe adds 1.5% for cards issued outside the US and another 1% when a currency conversion is needed. Tick both boxes to include them: a $100 charge then costs 5.4% + $0.30 = $5.70.
Does Stripe refund its fee when I refund a payment?
Stripe does not return the processing fee on refunds, and disputes have their own fee. Include that in your pricing if you expect many refunds.
Why is the effective rate higher on small charges?
The fixed $0.30 is the same on every charge, so it is 6% of a $5 charge but only 0.3% of a $100 charge. Bundling small purchases lowers the effective rate.
Is this calculator made by Stripe?
No. It is an independent estimate that runs in your browser. Rates change and depend on your account, so confirm them on Stripe's pricing page.
