How to use the Sales Velocity Calculator
Enter the number of qualified opportunities currently in your pipeline.
Add your win rate (won ÷ closed) and average deal size.
Enter the average sales cycle in days and choose calendar or business days.
Optionally add a monthly revenue target to see how many opportunities you need.
Read the velocity and the lever table to decide where an improvement pays off most.
Example: 50 qualified opportunities, a 25% win rate and a $12,000 average deal give a weighted pipeline of $150,000. With a 60-day sales cycle that is $2,500 per day, about $76,042 per month or $912,500 per year.
Because the four inputs multiply and divide, a percentage change in any one of them changes velocity by the same proportion, except the cycle length, whose effect is slightly larger: velocity changes by 1 ÷ (1 − cut) − 1.

Tips for using sales velocity
Segment it. Calculate velocity separately for inbound vs outbound, small vs large deals or by region; a blended number hides where the pipeline is slow.
Use the same time window for all inputs. Win rate, deal size and cycle length should come from the same recent period, such as the last two quarters.
Watch for trade-offs. Chasing bigger deals usually lengthens the cycle, and discounting to close faster lowers deal size. Velocity shows the net effect.
Frequently asked questions
What is the sales velocity formula?
Sales velocity = (number of opportunities × win rate × average deal size) ÷ sales cycle length. The result is the revenue your pipeline produces per day (or per whatever unit the cycle is measured in).
What does sales velocity tell you?
It combines the four main pipeline drivers into one number: how much revenue moves through your pipeline each day. Tracking it over time shows whether your sales engine is speeding up or slowing down, even when individual metrics move in different directions.
Which opportunities should I count?
Count qualified opportunities that are actively being worked in the period you are measuring, using the same definition every time. Including unqualified leads inflates the number and lowers the true win rate.
Which lever has the biggest effect?
A given percentage increase in opportunities, win rate or deal size raises velocity by exactly that percentage. Shortening the sales cycle helps slightly more, because the cycle is the divisor: a 10% shorter cycle increases velocity by about 11.1%.
Should I use calendar days or business days?
Either works if you are consistent. Most CRMs report cycle length in calendar days. If you measure the cycle in business days, this calculator converts using 5 days per week and 260 per year.
What is a good sales velocity?
There is no universal benchmark because it depends on deal size and market. Compare your velocity with your own past periods, between teams or segments, or against your revenue target instead.
How do I calculate win rate for the formula?
Win rate = deals won ÷ (deals won + deals lost) over a recent period. Use the win rate calculator if you need to work it out from deal counts.
