How to use the Etsy Fee Calculator
- Enter the item price, quantity, shipping you charge and any sales tax collected.
- Check the fees. US defaults are filled in: a listing fee of 0.20, a 6.5% transaction fee and 3% + 0.25 payment processing. Check current fees and change any of them.
- Tick Offsite Ads if the sale came from an Etsy ad on another site.
- Add your costs: materials, labor, packaging and what you pay for shipping.
- Press Calculate fees to see the total fees, payout, net profit, margin and break-even price.
Etsy fee formulas
- Listing fee = listing fee × quantity (0.20 per item by default)
- Transaction fee = 6.5% × (item price × quantity + shipping)
- Payment processing = 3% × (items + shipping + sales tax) + 0.25 (US example)
- Offsite Ads = Offsite Ads % × (items + shipping), up to the cap per order
- Net profit = items + shipping − all Etsy fees − your costs
- Break-even item price = ((fixed fees + costs) ÷ (1 − fee percentages) − shipping) ÷ quantity

Tips to keep more of each Etsy sale
- Build shipping into a realistic price. The transaction fee applies to shipping too, so undercharging for shipping costs you twice.
- Remember the listing fee is charged again each time an item with several units sells, and when a listing renews.
- Track which orders came from Offsite Ads. On cheap items, a 15% fee can wipe out the profit.
- Count your time. Adding a labor cost per item shows whether a product is really worth making.
Frequently asked questions
What fees does Etsy charge?
For most US sellers there is a listing fee of 0.20 per item, a transaction fee of 6.5% of the item price plus shipping and gift wrap, and a payment processing fee of about 3% + 0.25 of the order total including tax. Offsite Ads, Etsy Ads, currency conversion and regulatory fees can apply as well. Check current fees for your country.
How much does Etsy take from a $25 sale?
With $5 shipping and the US defaults, fees are 0.20 listing + 1.95 transaction + 1.15 processing = $3.30, or 11% of the $30 total. If the sale came from Offsite Ads at 15%, another $4.50 is added.
What is the Offsite Ads fee?
When a buyer clicks an Etsy ad on another site and buys within the attribution window, Etsy charges a percentage of the order total, often 15% (or 12% for shops over a sales threshold), capped per order. Tick the Offsite Ads box to include it.
Does Etsy charge fees on shipping and tax?
The transaction fee applies to the item price plus shipping. Payment processing is charged on the full order total including sales tax, even though the tax itself is passed on to the government.
How do I price an Etsy item for profit?
Add up materials, labor, packaging and shipping, then use the break-even price as a floor and add the margin you want. Many sellers aim for at least 30% net profit to cover returns, ads and time.
