| Items | Each product or service with its quantity and price. |
| Totals | Subtotal, discount, tax and the final total. |

Tax added or included?
In the US, prices are usually shown before sales tax, so choose Added to prices: a $100 sale with 8% tax totals $108.00. In the UK, EU and many other countries prices usually already include VAT, so choose Included in prices: a €120 sale with 20% VAT included contains €20.00 of VAT.
Printing tips
- In the print window, choose Save as PDF to email the receipt or keep a digital copy.
- For a receipt printer, choose the Thermal 80 mm style and set the paper size to 80 mm (or "Roll paper") in the printer settings. Turn off headers and footers.
- Use honest, accurate details. Receipts are records of real transactions and should only be issued for payments you actually received.
Frequently asked questions
What should a receipt include?
A receipt usually shows the seller's name and contact details, a receipt number, the date, what was sold (with quantities and prices), any discount, the tax, the total, how it was paid and, for cash, the amount received and change given.
How do I save the receipt as a PDF?
Press Print / Save PDF and choose "Save as PDF" (or "Microsoft Print to PDF") as the printer. Only the receipt is printed, not the rest of the page.
What is the difference between tax added and tax included?
With tax added, the tax is calculated on the subtotal and added on top. With tax included, the prices you enter already contain tax, and the receipt shows how much of the total is tax.
Can I use this for a thermal receipt printer?
Yes. Choose the thermal style, which is laid out for 80 mm paper, and set the paper size to 80 mm in your printer settings.
Is my data stored or uploaded?
No. Everything stays in your browser. Your business details and last receipt number are saved locally on your device so you don't have to type them again.
Is a receipt the same as an invoice?
No. An invoice asks for payment, while a receipt confirms that payment has been received. Use our Invoice Generator to bill a customer and this Receipt Maker once they have paid.
