Work out your Texas take-home pay per paycheck. Texas has no state or local income tax, so your check is gross pay minus federal income tax withholding, Social Security, Medicare and your own deductions. The calculator uses the 2026 federal brackets and W-4 rules (2025 also available).

How a Texas paycheck is calculated
Texas is one of the few states with no personal income tax, and Texas cities and counties do not levy one either. That leaves three deductions that every Texas employee pays, plus whatever benefits you choose:
Federal income tax withholding: your employer annualizes your taxable wages (gross pay minus traditional 401(k) and Section 125 deductions), subtracts the standard deduction for your W-4 filing status, applies the federal brackets, subtracts your W-4 Step 3 credits and divides by the number of paychecks (IRS Publication 15-T, percentage method).
Social Security: 6.2% of wages up to the wage base ($184,500 in 2026, $176,100 in 2025).
Medicare: 1.45% of all wages, plus 0.9% Additional Medicare Tax on wages over $200,000 in a year.
Texas state unemployment tax (SUTA) is paid entirely by the employer and never appears as a deduction on your stub. Texas also has no state disability or paid family leave payroll deduction for employees.

Tips for Texas workers
Your raise goes further: with no state tax, a single filer in the 22% bracket keeps about 70% of each extra dollar (100% − 22% − 7.65% FICA).
Use pre-tax benefits: health premiums and HSA contributions through a cafeteria plan avoid both income tax and FICA, saving up to 29.65% in the 22% bracket.
Check your W-4 after life changes: marriage, a new child or a second job changes Step 1c, Step 3 or Step 2 and can move withholding by hundreds of dollars a year.
Texas sales and property taxes are relatively high, so compare total cost of living, not just paychecks, when weighing a move.
Frequently asked questions
Does Texas have a state income tax?
No. Texas has no personal income tax at the state or local level, and the Texas Constitution requires voter approval before one could be created. Texas paychecks only lose federal income tax, Social Security, Medicare and any deductions you choose.
What taxes come out of a Texas paycheck?
Federal income tax withholding based on your W-4, Social Security at 6.2% of wages up to the yearly wage base ($184,500 in 2026), and Medicare at 1.45% of all wages plus 0.9% on wages above $200,000. Texas unemployment tax (SUTA) is paid by the employer, not withheld from you.
How much is $65,000 a year after taxes in Texas?
For a single filer paid every two weeks with no 401(k) or benefits, $65,000 comes to about $54,400 a year after 2026 federal income tax and FICA, or roughly $2,093 per biweekly check. Your own W-4 and deductions will change this, so enter them in the calculator.
How is federal withholding calculated?
Employers use the IRS percentage method in Publication 15-T: annualize your taxable wages, subtract the standard deduction for your filing status and any W-4 deductions, apply the tax brackets, subtract W-4 credits, then divide by the number of pay periods and add any extra withholding.
Do 401(k) and health insurance deductions lower my taxes?
Traditional 401(k) contributions reduce federal income tax but not Social Security or Medicare. Section 125 cafeteria-plan deductions such as health insurance premiums, HSA and FSA contributions usually reduce both income tax and FICA.
How often must Texas employers pay employees?
Under the Texas Payday Law, non-exempt employees must be paid at least twice a month, and exempt (salaried) employees at least once a month. Biweekly and semi-monthly schedules are the most common.
Why is my real paycheck slightly different?
Payroll systems round each period, track year-to-date wages for the Social Security cap, and may treat benefits, bonuses and tips differently. Expect small differences from this estimate.
