How to use the Food Delivery App Commission Calculator
Enter your average order subtotal at in-store prices and your monthly app orders.
Set the commission rate for your plan, plus any processing or per-order fees billed separately.
Add promo and ad costs you fund, then your food cost % and packaging per order.
Press Calculate payout to see what you keep, your profit and the price needed on the app.
Compare tiers in the table to decide which plan and markup make sense.
Price to match in-store = (in-store net + fixed fees + ad cost + packaging) ÷ (1 − commission − promo − processing × (1 − promo))
Markup needed by commission rate
Markup needed so a delivery order nets the same as an in-store sale with a 2.5% card fee, assuming no promos, processing, ad fees or packaging.

A 30% fee needs about a 39% markup (43% if you pay no in-store card fee), not 30%, because the commission is also charged on the extra amount you add.
Ways to protect your margin on delivery apps
Build a delivery menu of dishes that travel well and have lower food cost, and leave out low-margin items.
Use promotions with a goal. Discounts are taken from your payout; run them to win new customers, not every week.
Push direct ordering and pickup, which usually carry much lower fees than marketplace delivery.
Price packaging into the menu and check monthly statements for adjustments, refunds and error charges.
Frequently asked questions
How much commission do food delivery apps charge restaurants?
Commissions on marketplace delivery orders commonly range from about 15% to 30% of the food subtotal, depending on the plan you choose. Lower tiers usually give less visibility or a smaller delivery radius, while pickup orders and orders placed through your own ordering site often cost much less. Check your contract for the exact rate.
How do I calculate my payout from a delivery app?
Payout = subtotal − commission − restaurant-funded promotions − payment processing − ad fees. For a $35 order at 25% commission with a 5% promo and a $0.50 ad fee, the payout is 35 − 8.75 − 1.75 − 0.50 = $24.00.
How much should I mark up my menu on delivery apps?
To earn the same as in-store, divide your in-store net (price minus card fees) plus fixed per-order costs (app fees, ads, packaging) by 1 minus the percentage fees. With 25% commission, 5% promos and a 2.5% in-store card fee, a $35 order nets $34.13 in-store, so the app price should be about 34.13 ÷ 0.70 = $48.75, a markup of roughly 39%. Many restaurants choose a smaller markup and accept a lower margin to stay competitive.
Is commission charged before or after promotions?
It depends on the platform and contract. This calculator charges commission on the full subtotal and processing on the amount after the discount, which is a common and conservative assumption. If your statement shows a different order, adjust the rates so the payout matches.
Are menu price increases on delivery apps allowed?
Many restaurants list higher prices on delivery apps to cover commissions, and most platforms allow it. Some local laws and some platform programs have rules on price parity or fee caps, so check your agreement and local regulations before changing prices.
Does this include the delivery fee and tips the customer pays?
No. Delivery fees, service fees and driver tips paid by the customer usually go to the platform or the courier, not the restaurant. Enter only the food and drink subtotal that the commission is based on.
Why does my profit per app order look so low?
Commission is taken from the full menu price, but your food cost and packaging stay the same, so the fee comes almost entirely out of your margin. A 30% commission on a dish with a 30% food cost leaves 40% to cover labor, rent and everything else.
